Monitor
« on: November 22, 2015, 09:58:39 AM »

Everyone's favourite cute and fluffy overspecialised flak frigate is very much overpriced.
It costs 39k.
For ref. an Enforcer (which has significantly more ability for only slightly more supply maint.) costs a mere 29k.

It is never worth buying a Monitor. Especially with the new fleet limits.
Please lower the price a little to make it a bit more of an attractive prospect.

I found one for sale early, but did not buy because I needed the money for more beatstick ships.  Buy the time I could afford the Monitor, it was gone, and I have not found another since.

True they are very expensive. Also: terrible as a player flagship.

Isn't the price a kind of balancing? Like Tempests and Hyperions are also very expansive.

And I don't see how the price has something to do with fleet limits. In contrary, a strong but expensive ship is even better then before, because you are limited in your numbers

I think he meant that you can buy a better ship and with a lower cost instead of the Monitor.

I know. But he also said it's especially bad because of the fleet limits.

But really, money isn't THAT much of a problem. And the Monitor is an interesting ship, especially with a Defense-Focused, aggressive Officer soaking up all enemy fire.

That's because Monitor uses as much slots in your fleet as any other ship, so there's basically zero reasons to buy it. Unless you just want to play with it for fun and test things.

Exactly. And where's the problem with this? It doesn't take up more space than any other ship.

With this logic EVERY ship is "bad" because you only should buy it if you want it. I really don't get the logic behind this

...Do you really not understand the concepts of cost effectiveness and/or opportunity costs?

Winner.

It didn't matter so much when we had logistics because smaller ships had smaller logistics "footprints".
But now there is a hard cap on how many ships you can have and every ship has a footprint of 1, there is never a reason to buy this ship as there are alternatives which are both cheaper AND more effective.

Seems a waste to have things that the player is actively discouraged from using.

I love that little ship. I can deploy it and let it do its thing without needing to worry about it. I could be surrounded by three destroyer class ships and I'd still feel fine letting it tank while the rest of my fleet works on the other stuff.

The monitor takes a HUGE beating. I have come across a couple in fights recently, and they just refuse to die. they are the perfect escort vessel, I would go as far to say that two monitors could keep any ship safe.

Strangely enough, i have noticed that the AI will put itself between your fire and a dying ally in attempts to save it from certain doom. multiple times when an allied cruiser is overheated, a wolf or lasher flies straight in and unloads everything they have at me in order to stop my attack. most of the time the frigate dies, but if it were a monitor... that would be a different story. really liking the updated AI this update, but having all maxed out officers makes fights a bit too easy.
