I have recently taken over development of the official version of the Confederacy of Free Stars mod, with the permission of the mod's author, InfinitySquared.

CFS Kindjal-class Fighter

The Kindjal is incredibly fast, even for it's size. The advanced engine systems reduce the fighter's capacity for weapons systems, but make no mistake, it is a menace on the field.

CFS Stiletto-class Heavy Fighter



The term 'heavy fighter' is considered a misnomer by most Hegemony, Tri-Tachyon, and Pirate commanders. They find the term 'monstrosity' more apt, as with all Perseus Arm Coalition ships encountered so far.

The Stiletto is a reliable workhorse for almost any role, from interception to assault, (and even bombing runs!) due to its heavy armament, combined with thick armor, powerful shielding, and superior speed and maneuverability. It is undeniably expensive, and very large however. Even then, the Stiletto is a very real threat on any battlefield.

CFS Keris-class Gunship



The Keris-class Gunship is an antiquated design by Coalition standards. This does not prevent it from being a highly adaptable chassis, nor from being a serious threat on the battlefield.

Once mistaken for an oversized bomber due to its general shape, the Falchion quickly made a name for itself in convoy interception operations. The Falchion then went on to surprise hostiles by performing reliably well as a Point Defense unit, and then as a heavy striker. Many consider the Falchion the Stiletto's larger brother.

CFS Dagger-class Heavy Frigate



The Dagger is a recently introduced design created to bridge the gap somewhat between the Keris and the Javelis. It is quite heavily armed with both energy weapons and missiles, and is able to strike quickly at larger enemy ships. Therefore, the name is quite apt for this ship.

CFS Javelis-class Destroyer



The Javelis is comparable to the Medusa in terms of speed and acceleration. However, it is somewhat fragile due to its thin armor. It, like many Coalition warships, is based on a highly adaptable chassis.

The Javelis has three universal mounts, but is dominated by energy weapon mounts. These three provide enough flexibility to make the Javelis a credible threat at any range. It is not uncommon for a group of these warships to mount both types of JUPITER ASM system to pummel enemies from afar while another group closes in from behind.

RVS Stahlraven-class Cruiser



The Stahlraven first made a name for itself as a long-range missile carrier with its battery of Mercury ASM launchers. It bears a striking similarity to some ship chassis that would have been even closer were it not for the 'tail' that extends behind the ship.

RVS Stahlfalken-class Assault Carrier



The Stahlfalken-class was initially mistaken for a Battleship in its first appearance at the Battle of Corvus. Admiral Calder of the local Hegemony force has been stated to request a new uniform when reports poured in from the pickets that the RVS Taipan was launching and refitting strike-craft as it was engaging the HSS Basilisk, and winning.

The Stahlfalken is the epitome of the Coalition doctrine of flexibility. It even stands in for a cargo carrier in convoys!

When a joint Hegemony-Tri-Tachyon force destroyed the CFS Arthur, the last Excalibur-class Sovereign, some time in 3012, Admiral Grayson stated that the 'Sovereign threat' was over and that the Coalition would be evicted from the sector within a year. He himself personally led the strike force that laid siege to Bastion.

It was his mistake.

As Light Destroyer Groups L001 through L014, Heavy Destroyer Groups H031 and H052, and Carrier Battlegroups C001 and C003 fell back. Sovereign Groups S001 and S002 maneuvered under phase to Grayson's rear guard and launched a simultaneous attack on his command ship and its escorts. The destruction of Grayson's flagship was completed in 0.52 seconds under the combined firepower of twelve Phased Array Cannons. The liquidation of his escort group took approximately six hours due to the mass panic induced by the arrival of four Joyeuse-class Sovereigns.

The rest promptly surrendered after seeing what could be done to a Paragon with a single salvo from the CFS Firelance's Antiparticle Lance battery. They were given no quarter as vengeance for the glassings of Sargasso II and Another Rock.

First: your sprite (while unrefined) is way beyond what i have ever made from scratch (kitbashes do not really count). So i can't really give you tips on spriting except practice, practice and further practice.

Second: I would be more than happy to help implement code/weapons/ships for this mod, though my free time is a bit limited at the moment (it IS christmas after all).


EDIT: I just noticed, but is that ship inspired by Faster Than Light, by any chance?

Sort of.
I would say that the sprite was based around the Fed Cruiser based on the design and weapon layout.
It would be good to know WHAT the ship's role is. Fast attack? Arty? PD Platform? Will it be High tech? Mid? Low?
As for the sprite itself, TBH that small narrow section is NOT a good idea as you have two large masses connected by a thin section. The stresses of battle, be they damage or fast and or sharp maneuvers, would tear the ship apart!

You know, that actually might look okay... I'll mess around with it a bit until I get what I like.

Fast attack. The two front small hardpoints are going to have built in repeating assault laser guns. Rather like a Vulcan with around 95 dps and somewhere around 600 range. It does Energy damage and can't track missiles, but it can track fighters. The back 2 hardpoints are energy slots, feel free to put whatever you want in there. The spinal hardpoint is medium energy. Put what you want there. This frigate is meant to be pretty fast, around 175 without the speed boost. I might need to nerf the medium weapon slot if I am going to use that speed.

A bit higher then the Hammerhead, for instance. The hulls of my ships are lesser then what the Hammerhead's would be, but their armor is a smidge higher. They obviously use mostly energy weapons. A few missile and universal slots are going to be on some of the larger ships.

I think I'll take you up on that offer. But first, I'd like to get all the sprites (ships and weapons) at least someone done. I'll have to ask someone to shade the ships for me. I haven't figured out how to do it with Paint.NET. (yet)

I just got this error message. I'm trying to run my frigate as a part of SS+, but I'm getting this error and I have no idea of what to do about it. I've already fixed about 5 others, but no matter what I do, this one just won't *** off.

Try running the game with only LazyLib, the console mod and your mod.
Also, what did you make your "yourshipname".ship and ship_data.csv files with? If you didn't use the ship editor here on the forums and a spreadsheet program, respectively, to make those files then you might have formatting errors

I used Trylobot's ship editor to make both a .ship and a .variant.

my ship's name is si_f_bolt. The ship editor let me make the Excel spreadsheet easily enough.

I'd put the mod files up for download, but I dunno how. :P

If you put your mod folder into a .zip file, you should be able to upload directly on the forums (click the "additional options" option then attach it to the forum post)
And be sure to send the whole mod file as you might have made a simple mistake somewhere

I used an example mod base. I hope that didn't screw it up.

EDIT 1: I just saw the csv file. I have no idea why it reverted. I already filled in the missing fields with their data, and saved it.

EDIT 2: I closed and re-opened the csv file and it was normal again. The only missing fields are the defense id, the system id, and the phase cloak stats. The ship does not phase cloak, so I left them empty. Am I supposed to fill them in? Also, MesoTroniK, I think you need to scroll to the right a bit. :)

You based your ship data .csv on 0.6.2a SS standards.
