Dumping elite troops on a warship doesn't suddenly make it the best damn thing out there in the black. Allow ships to reach higher combat readiness due to repeated successes in battle, low crew losses in battles, numerous 'kills' in battles, and allow the inverse of these situations, as well as other things have a draining effect on individual ship 'morale/cr.'

Reputations for a ship as being 'unlucky or lucky.'

Unshielded, or poorly shielded ships being less popular among less experienced crews.

'Untouchable/invincible' ships with many good status effects recieve a more noticeable increase in morale.

A ship that has earned a terrible reputation as a bloody ship may have to be scrapped, due to superstitious crew.

I'm talking more about a possible 'morale' systems alongside CR. This would allow ships to be 'disabled due to crew loss/abandoning ship' or 'bring down their colors/surrender' based on various factors, rather than having a zero sum of 'escape-or-sunk.'

:P this has the feel of something that may end up being in Xenos mod at some point in some form, but curently i would say this is a "too complex for vanilla SS" kind of thing

Fair enough. I think it'd be cool to see ships 'surrendering' in combat. Either as a ruse to escape later, or simply due to lack of will to fight.
