Installer has security risk
« on: January 09, 2014, 08:22:37 PM »

Hi, I came back here after seeing a new version of the game is avaible.
After downloading the installer , my Norton kicks in and says it is a threat and then deleted the Installer file.
I look up in the log, it has something to do with Ws.Reputation.1
and this is what it says in the Norton site

WS.Reputation.1

Systems Affected:
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000
Behavior
WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology. Because this detection is based on a reputation score, it does not represent a specific class of threat like adware or spyware, but instead applies to all threat categories.

The reputation-based system uses "the wisdom of crowds" (Symantec’s tens of millions of end users) connected to cloud-based intelligence to compute a reputation score for an application, and in the process identify malicious software in an entirely new way beyond traditional signatures and behavior-based detection techniques.

I am just wondering what is going on ?

Basically, the installer's fine, Norton's just being very silly.

Most likely, nobody has rated the safety of the installer, or some jerk rated it low and nobody else has rated it, dragging the "wisdom" down.

People still use norton? and Welcome to the forums lol this is usually the case with certain AV software. Underground Games like these sometimes have files that are virtually no harm to your computer and get rated as some low level threat and your AV goes all "game over man!" on you.

When you can't go on, just accept your doom. It comes to all, it is inevitable.

Also I totally had the name BEFORE the cruiser.

Ok , thanks.
The only reason I asked is because I didn't have any problem before. And yes, I had Norton as my Anti Virus with previous version of the installer and everything is fine.
This is the first time it pops up warning, which cause some concerns for me

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. It's come up in the past, and just because I'm paranoid, I've had it analyzed by a bunch of different anti-viruses. Conclusion: norton was giving a false positive, not that that was much of a surprise.

If you can find some way to rate it "safe" in there, that might help in the long run :)

Do yourself a favour and get rid of Norton and get Avast! and Spybot to keep your system clean. :) Both are free as well.
