GAME LEGEND

In order to get started in a new campaign for Text Based Grand Strategy you'll need to post an application in this thread, or send one in a PM to Erick Doe. Just fill out the application template and you're all set to join up in the next campaign.

Below we'll try to explain the various terms and actions that you may come across while playing.

1.) Turns
Spoiler
New turns start after every player in the campaign has finished their respective turns. At the start of a turn players collect $ (credits) from their dockyards and gain ship parts or new ships if they have chosen to build/ buy new ships and parts during their previous turn. During a turn a player can choose to either build a new Dockyard at a planet they own, stimulate population growth on one of their planets, or construct certain ship parts. Ship parts can be used to build new ships!

2.) Orbital Dockyards
Spoiler
Orbital Dockyards can be constructed for free as an initial civilisation action (before the start of the very first turn) or during a play-turn. Each new Dockyard will cost you $$$. A new Dockyard build during your turn will cost you $500. For every Dockyard you own you'll receive $50 at the start of each new turn. Dockyards can be captured if your planet is taken.
[close]

3.) Stimulate Population Growth:
Spoiler
When this action has been picked during a turn, at the next turn the player will receive 1 million colonists on the owned planet of their choosing. These add to the defense rating of planets. For every weapon an attacking ship or fleet has, they do another 0.5 million damage to a planet per turn. The more colonists a planet has, the longer it takes for it to be captured.
[close]

4.) Construct a Ship
Spoiler
Ships can be constructed by using your pooled ship parts. During each turn you can use your action to produce either 2 Engines, 2 Weapons or 2 Bulheads. Engines add to the speed of your ships. A fleet will only go as fast as the slowest ship. Weapons add to the damage rating of your ships. Bulkheads add to the durability of your ships. All ships stats will be stacked together when formed into a fleet. The smallest ships get destroyed first. For every 2 engines, a ship can move 1 extra grid per turn.

1 Engine = 1 Grid p. turn
2 Engines = 2 Grids p. turn
4 Engines = 3 Grids p. turn
6 Engines = 4 Grids p. turn
[close]

5.) Buy a Ship
Spoiler
Ships and even Mercenary Fleets can be bought as a turn action. The available ships and mercenary fleets differ per campaign.

Ship Statistics
1 - 5 parts = frigate
6 - 10 parts = destroyer
11 - 20 parts = cruiser
21 - XXX parts = capital ship

You can build your own ships and name them (or name your fleets). Here are several examples:

E[]>
This is a frigate consisting of 3 parts. An engine, a bulkhead and a weapon. Its statistics are 1/1/1

EE[][][]>>
This is a destroyer consisting of 7 parts. Two engines, three bulkheads and two weapons. Its statistics are 2/3/2

If these two ships were placed into a fleet, the statistics would be 1/4/3. Note that the slowest ship's engine rating always counts. Unless a gravity well is bought.
[close]

6.) Trade
Spoiler
You may trade with other players. All you need is colonies next to one another. Trading takes up the entire action of the player that initialises the trade.

Aaaaand...

The game is life! First campaign is about to start. Send in your applications!

Eventhough you might feel overwhelmed by statistics, text and numbers right about now; this is actually a roleplaying thing! So just jump in and I'll help you along.  ;)

[EDIT]
I feel people aren't as interested in this as they were in the Federation of Pixels. Maybe it is the lack of graphics?  :-\
