imo modded content will never beat "canon" ones

DotA would like ot have a word with you.

Anyway fighters no longer being useless wastes of fleet capacity and personell dump!
Yay for fighters that don't disapear FOREVER! after accidentally going near a hostile onslaught.

If I woudn´t believe that content added by mod couldn´t match original and work together as one, then I wouldn´t be doing what I am doing right now.

hey, it's just my opinion...

mods are nice places to go once in a while, but I didn't just buy the game for the gameplay, also the lore and settings.

That's why the few mods I made are as close to the original sf universe as I can manage.

I'm excited for everything, though I admit the fighter changes are especially appealing.

I love mods. I also love plain vanilla -- there are definitely times when I prefer one over the other, which is why it's so great to have both as an option! The fact that Starsector treats community mods as first-class citizens is one of my favorite parts of the game's overall design. We already have a large number of amazing projects from so many talented modders, I can only imagine what we'll be seeing in the future -- especially with all these additional mod resources being built into the game.

While I am excited for fighters to become more than cannon fodder, I am super excited for hyperspace travel. One of my favorite games is X-3 because of it's open-worldness. Adding hyperspace and other systems to the game is one step closer to having a universe where combat is not the only focus. I cant wait to explore and trade with other systems as an alternative to my current strategy of "kill everything that moves because my fleet outmatches everything else".

I'm very excited about a new, larger, patch. I'm too new to the game to have any specific wants, it all look rather spiffing :D

i'd say my reaction to the mod can be summed up in three words:
whoop whoop whoop! * scuttles away like zoidberg* (well 7 if you count the action)

The most exciting thing will be watching the moding scene meltdown as mod makers desperately try to remake their mods to include all the new mechanics that will appear.

I don't agree. In fact, I think it's pretty common for any game with a healthy modding community to get full conversion mods that outshine the original in quality. (Subject to personal preferences, of course.)
Indeed, floris for warband is a good example.

However, no mods i've found on these forums surpass the quality of the ships in the original game. Additionally they are often poorly balanced. Once the game is more complete, modders will have more time and reason to work out balance without it being thrown out next patch, and can improve quality from there. One day we'll see mods that provide better content than the original game, but not today.

What exactly you don´t link about quality of ships?

I dunno dude, i've seen ships on these forums that far surpass the quality of the original ships, they might not always fit in with the starsector theme tho, either being way too good looking (HD sprites, 3D spriting), or made in other games and then used here.

These for example http://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=6423.0 The base Starsector ships has got nothing on that, but it almost looks to good for this game if you know what i mean.

I wouldn't say better or worse. Just different. Subjectively calling something better isn't really fact. It's just your opinion. Soooo not sure why people are even arguing about it.

To me it's not always about definition. It's the same thing i think bout modded graphic packs for minecraft: higher definition =\= better, in fact they look jarring to say the least given the nature of the game. As much quality a modder can put into a mod of the game it will never fit into it as good as the content that the creator did.
