Something funny about 'Making Do.'
« on: July 30, 2013, 09:21:02 AM »

When you have 'Making Do,' fighters also receive crew requirement reductions. Broadsword wings require 2 (but have 3 ships), Thunder Multiroles require 1, but have two ships, etcetera.

So it got me wondering, how do they do this? Since my fleet is stocked full of marines I'll probably never use, I just imagine some particularly smart marine in power armour being talked through piloting one of the fightercraft.

But what about when you literally only have the one crewman (or two). A jury-rigged autopilot would do it, I suppose, eh?

I didn't know that affected fighters too, great find!

also i'd like to think its just a very smart autopilot, although a marine in all his bulky power armor crammed into a tiny pilot's seat sounds funny as well.

When you can't go on, just accept your doom. It comes to all, it is inevitable.

Also I totally had the name BEFORE the cruiser.

Well in most fighters, they stay in formation. So maybe the others just follow that 1 or 2 piliot, and if they fallout of formation they can try to get back in.

Sounds like something you'd find on youtube when you search for videos of soldiers goofing off.

Pilots control two fighters at a time. The one they're sitting in and another by remote control, a la The 6th day. (Yes, terrible movie. Nice choppers though.) Talking about great reflexes!
Or they're controlled by people from one of your capital ships.
Or fighters have an onboard AI mode.
Or... ?

Some of the pilots are just THAT good at multitasking.

I like to pretend there is a giant bungee cord connecting to one of the fighter wings and it just gets dragged along firing at whatever :p Sure seems like that when you watch them fly around

But isn't 'Making Do' supposed to imply that the ship's crew is just so good at their jobs that they don't really need as many people to run it? That doesn't really make sense with single-seat fighter craft without shoehorning autopilot stuff in there. If there's autopilot that's easily available, doesn't cost you extra money, and is just as good as a regular pilot, why don't all fighters use it? That explanation breaks the lore.

In short, if you throw a stone out of the rear window of your spaceship you will go faster.

Gotcha!

Because some pilots get such a kick out of flying a fighter that they demand to fly instead.

So there. *rolleyes*

Arranging holidays in an embrace with the Starsector is priceless.
