Like funneling people into your hellbore?  :)  They would serve lots or purposes in escape and defend missions. And after you've captured a resource.

So no they aren't a weapon, but they would serve a similar purpose to delayed damage weapons in that you'd do a hit and run, then lead them into a mine field.  :)
