Yeah just bought the game today installed it, ran it, hit "play starfarer"and it came up with
Fatal: Exiting -exception in LWJGL initialization
Cause: Pixel Format not accelerated

I've updated to the latest beta drivers in an effort to fix the problem, however it still come up with this error. also I can also play minecraft fine...
I'm using a laptop with an Nvidia Geforce 9300m GS.
Any ideas?

Hmm... unfortunately, I'm not sure if there's something that can be done to fix it right now. I did, however, change the initialization code in the dev version to try to address this problem - so there's a decent-to-good chance that it will work.

If the next version comes out, and it still doesn't, that's definitely something I'll work to address. The fact that Minecraft does work is encouraging because it's using the same library under the hood (though MC uses an older version). If you could try the demo for Revenge of the Titans, knowing whether it works would be a very helpful data point for me. Please accept my apologies for the problem!

Yup i can play revenge of the Titans fine, I bought i while back.
but thanks for support!  It's just really frustrating not being able to play this (Hopefully!) awesome game.
yeah no worry's it in alpha so i understand, but any help would be great!

If you'll allow me to take advantage of your good nature, would you mind trying this?

It's a little test program. Just unzip it and run "run.bat" - if all goes smoothly, it should open up a new window and display a spinning blue square. If that works, then the next version should work on your computer. If not, I've got some work to do :)

Oh, it relies on having Java 6 installed on your computer - if you don't have that, it won't run, but I can bundle it in if you're still up for testing it.

Okay i'm running java 6 update 30. I ran the .bat and it opened the command prompt thing then closed and nothing happened... i got a screenshot of it and seems to be the same problem, Pixel format not accelerated...

Ack! Well, thanks for trying it, anyway. I'll see if I can tweak that test further in a bit. Would you mind helping test it again at some point? (If you don't, can you turn on notify for this thread, or shoot me a quick email?) Please don't feel obligated to agree.

Actually if it's any help at all, I could help test too, as I am having the same problem with a 256mb nvidia Geforce 9200, and I would really love to play this game since it looks really fun and promising, if I won't really help I don't mind though.

Thanks for the offer, that would help. Just to confirm, are your video drivers up to date? This exact problem usually shows up because the drivers are out of date, though it looks like it shows up with new drivers on some hardware, too.

bad news, still came up pixel format not accelerated, revenge of the titans works fine, java 6 update 30 is installed, minecraft works fine, and the little test program you suggested earlier doesn't work. Anyway I can help let me know.

Thank you for trying it! You did restart after installing the driver, right?

If you don't mind, I've prepared another test, here.

There are 6 .bat files in here: run1.bat through run6.bat. If you could run each of them, and let me know whether it 1) works and 2) what color the spinning square is, if it does work, that would really help.

Okay restarted to double check, still didn't work.  Ran 1-6.bat the ones that worked were 2.bat, came out green. 3.bat came out grey. 6.bat which came out white. 1,4,5 all came up with the run command but after that there was nothing. Also I don't know if this matters but my graphics card is intergrated into the motherboard. Again thanks for the help, nice to see a developer who pays attention to the community, espicially after getting alot more people who bought the game, thanks to TB.

That really helped narrow it down - can you try the same thing, but with this build?

Only 4 tests this time.


Looks like your video card (or driver) doesn't support 8 bits of destination alpha. Trying to find out how many it does support - hopefully, it's not 0.

okay did the same thing, and run 1.bat was the only that worked and it came up green.
