Limit Theory: An Infinite, Procedural Space Game

 YEEEEAAAAHHHHHHH     8)

Quote
You are an Admiral.  You command a ship that dwarfs everything in sight. Frigates and cruisers hover about you, pretending to offer protection, but you don't need it. At the first sight of an enemy, hundreds of bolts carrying terrawatts of energy pour out of your ship, vaporizing the unwanted presence in seconds. Slowly and steadily, you drift from system to system, steamrolling those who oppose your authority. You conquer the universe.

What? The game has a concept that sound more awesome than starfarer. Actually, tbh, more than a few games have. Starforge, and another game called Star Citizen, and planetary annihilation, etc. Well, most games that i've been managing to find have :D

Yeah, concept sound awesome. For me Starfarer have perfect form. It is limited in 2D but that allows extremely good and smart AI and that is what Alex utilize to maximum. I never see AI good as this. And that is crucial for singleplayer games.

What part of the concept are you referring to? Because procedural generation is everything but new, it usually results in very huge and very boring environments.

talking about the other features. Like, planetary landing, planetary landing and planet-side construction.

Looked cool enough for a $15 backing, but not interesting enough to donate to get alpha/beta access.

Procedural stuff is great for filling in details or fleshing out a background; it's always a major disappointment in terms of having a fun-filled, interesting universe.  This is something that's been tried a lot, actually, mainly in space games; Battlecruiser 3000AD being the first big 3D title IIRC that tried it out.

TBH, I'd much rather play a game with 20 really excellent ships that are all unique and fit into interesting niches than a game with 20 billion combinations of boring boxes where each time the universe generates, it's obvious which ones are OP and UP and there's no point in exploring the "infinite universe" because there's no story, no dramatic tension and nothing interesting to do.

Oh, look, the Sausage-Cyber-Galvatrons are now at war with the Ecumenical Rodents, for complex simulational reasons that I don't understand that aren't explained in any way beyond some lame text box presentation.  Wow, I wish I cared about these randomly-generated critters and their problems.

I get why a brilliant young lone-wolf programmer who obviously isn't much of an artist wants to go this way, but frankly the video leaves me wondering why I'd want to play a game where dark boxy things fight other dark boxy things in a universe I don't care about enough to take over.

I'd much rather play a game with a soul :)

I don't know... I mean I love space games, but this looks like it has too much"EVEness" for me lol, I want a space game not sim city, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Infinite procedural universe + the tools for players to make it interesting = epic win.
Minecraft provided this; let the players themselves create the narrative.

Unless the author of Limit Theory understands this philosophy I fear the game will be little more than an impressive, but empty sandbox.

Though I do have 1 query about the game; is it a static universe, or is he simulating the motion of the astronomical bodies.

(Debated on new topic, let me know if I should instead of posting here)

http://forums.ltheory.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4208

It appears that the creator of Limit Theory has disappeared, or at least gone silent. He hasn't posted since the first of February and hasn't logged on to the official forums in two weeks. Hopefully this is just an uncommunicated vacation and not another game abandoned. I remember hearing rumblings during the kickstarter that some considered it a scam but I didn't think much of it until hearing this news.
