AoE EMP?

Is it possible to create a weapon that deals EMP damage over an area larger than the immediate vicinity of the hit? I've tried to create an EMP torpedo that deals EMP damage over a large area, but it seems like only the regular damage component is AoE.

I would say yes (not 100% sure), if you create a missile, set a EMP damage then set the explosion radius to damage in a certain AoE size, it should hit every ship inside that AoE with EMP damage.

As I said in my OP, that's exactly what I did; but only the conventional damage component is dealt in the AoE: the EMP component still only affects the vicinity of the impact site.

That might be not intended then, how about making a MIRV missile releasing multiple non guided smaller missiles doing EMP, at list you can hit various ships in a zone like a AoE

IIRc the Emp area of effect is hardcoded so it cannot be modified in size, only it's intensity, though mirvs are a good workaround, if you wanted a mega-wide-area-emp device, it'll be insufficient,

possible workarounds (haven't tested)

make a weapon that shoots a bunch of projectiles (try a modified flak cannon)
or missile that spawns missiles that spawn missiles... basically make a cluster bomb.
a very wide emp beam weapon
 a ship/drone that has a bunch of emp weapons on it

hope this gives you some ideas
