Merc/Bandit bases/hideouts?
« on: January 13, 2012, 05:27:42 AM »

If I remember the game is going to be sandbox right? so like free roam and stuff.

In that case how epic would bandit bases and hideouts be?

Could be placed randomly with random ships and you could loot ships and weapons and stuff.

In the current dev build a pirate fleet spawns in an astemaroid belt. Hunting that thing down is totally awesome ;D

Edit: Fixed spelling of astemaroid.

Nah, it doesn't seem like it, I've heard of people running the game on quite old computers, I'll go ahead and put a little information below from the FAQ on this topic to help out.

What kind of computer do I need to run the game?

Linux, Mac, or a PC.  Exact specs are hard to pin down, but we’ll make every effort to keep them as low as possible. You will need a display that supports at least a 1024×768 resolution, however.

The integrated graphics card may mean some of the larger battles are slow, though. My laptop struggles with it, while my desktop that's at this point four or so years old (and wasn't anywhere near top of the line when new) has no trouble.

You have no idea how excited this idea made me. If you posted pictures, I think my heart would have exploded.

The battle station is not completely operational, shall we say.

"Now witness the firepower of this thoroughly buggy and unoperational batt... Oh, hell, you know what? Just ignore the battle station, okay?"

Oh yeah? Well, I'll see your "pirate fleet in an asteroid belt", and raise you a "Hegemony convoy arriving in-system to drop supplies off at the orbital station". :D

Will you be including defense structures? Like a laser tower or something like that which can be captured by either side

Oh yeah!  :)  Now we're talkin!

Extra credit of course, if attacking the Hegemony convoy does something to your overall relationship to the Hegemony in the outside world.  :)

And even more awesome if it slightly modified your relationship to factions which despise the Hegemony.  Man, this is gonna be fun to mess around with, ha ha!

One of the original concepts for battle types was a space siege. We had to take that idea out of the lineup for now since it requires a ton of work to implement, but I often think about it still.

I think the high energy laser concept started its life as a siege weapon.
