The Arial one works fine, but yeah, it did throw things out of whack. ;)

New version 0.5 is out!

Download: http://www.sendspace.com/file/c3zuz6

There's a lot of content update! The combat part  is almost finished*, except for the command UI part.
The campaign part is now structured and has about 70% of its content finished*. Still needs polish and lore boxes, though.

I also added a lore section. Actually, I'm thinking about adding a sub-section for Starfarer short stories there. If you are interested in that go to this thread.

Overall the document got a lot of polish, I added headers, restructured the TOC, doubled the page count, halved the file size and it should now be fully compatible with mac and exotic devices like smartphones.

I'm still really looking for help with this! If you can contribute, please do so!

*if I say something is finished, that is in relation to the next version of starfarer, not to the final version of the manual/game

New update is live :)

http://www.mediafire.com/?9rd8cvladmd1xkk

Another round of polish, improved navigation and addition of short stories from the contest. The campaign part is mostly finished now (except the pre/post battle mechanics since they might change soon).

Any suggestion what else this could need?

Looks very good indeed and I'm quite pleased to see that my story made it into the manual!

wow, I never read this thing before, well done! :)

that said, I noticed a few things that are either wrong (afaik) or confusing

not sure where modern epoch came from, it would seem (from memory and a quick search in descriptions.csv) that midline is from the core epoch, expansion epoch bridge midline/hightech (think sunder) and the full tri-tach blue tint ships + weapons are from the late-expansion epoch.

fighters can actively vent flux, usually seen in xypho and tridents, they just rarely do (pretty sure I've seen them doing so before anyway, will see about acquiring proof on that one

there's 2 search & destroy orders on page 51, don't think they're different at all

again, good job! ;D

Notice to devs: on page 25 of the manual, there is a typo in the last sentence: The word, "witch" is used where "which" is grammatically appropriate.

I know it isn't the final draft of the manual, but I thought I'd let you guys know! XD

Thanks to gunny and Graidon for finding those mistakes :)

About the fighter venting flux actively: Can anyone confirm? I have never seen them do that.

I have seen only xyphos doing it, have yet to see any other fighter do it.

Nope, never seen any fighters vent flux.  I don't think they're hardcoded to do so.

I'll have to rewrite everything about fighters anyway, gonna investigate it then.

Went through the manual; here's a list of typos and some suggestions I have:

p19: Firing missile -> Firing missiles OR Firing a missile

p30-31: Ships from different epochs: you can note the shield color (red for low-tech, blue for midline and high-tech)

p39: prudent -> prudently (adverb)

p67: Text is messed up (some paragraphs seem to have been cut off)

p79: Ordinance Points -> Ordnance Points ;)

p88: Some torpedoes are yellow ;) (but they're relatively weak and easy to shoot down, so I guess you don't really have to worry the newbs about them)

p91: Adding the icons for Hound, Buffalo, Talon and Piranha might help the newbies to recognize them

Uh, thanks! You do this now as the manual is obsolete?^^

But much of the parts you pointed out will stay for the next version, so still very helpful :)

By the way, if anyone cares: I'm probably not really gonna start writing on the next manual version before 0.6.1a comes out.

And I'm still looking for co-authors...although I'm beginning to give up on that.
