Im not sure if its been suggested before but here goes:

Alex, could you add a new name tag for prefixes across an entire fleet? as it is, the prefix is in the ship name... and if i wanted to have my own prefix for all my ships in my fleet, i would have to spend a minute or two changing names... it would be really nice if there could be a little "prefix" area on the fleet tab, so that it is possible to change the prefix of all your ships at once.

YES!!!

Well that would just be soooo awesome. And i bet it'd be easy too, just make sure all the letters in the alphabet are in the RGB colors, and go for it! :)

Yes i like that idea! although it would be difficult to see... i would prefer if the prefix alone was visible in combat, because they tend to be around 2 - 4 letters long.

But this would also mean alex and friends wold have to spend time creating a system for a detail you probably won't see very often.

I know. I just stated that most of the games details is in something you barely notice. The UI :)

Good thing I did a search before posting this again! Anyway, this is another vote for being able to set a default ship prefix for every vessel in your fleet. A small QOL issue but it'd be a nice thing.

I think it's cool to see those small details, and those details make a much larger impact to the games we play than people realize.  +1 from me.

I'm neutral about the global prefix, but the hull painting...I'm not sure if that would work. To be readable the letters had to be at least 5x3 pixel large. Letters that size would severely screw with the looks of the hull, mask details and disrupt color gradients that show curvature. Maybe it would work if the letters were somewhat opaque. If someone had the time and inclination to make a mock-up it could be properly discussed.

if we ever do get multiple fleets in game then this will be kinda necessarily to be able to keep oversight on exactly where what asset is, as for it being painted onto the hull.... itll be neat but don't really find it necessary

The implication in Alex's musings on gameplay seems to be that, like Spore, you can progress to tiers of proportionally larger influence and scale, so you can potentially end up running your own faction much like TT or the Hegemony. So multiple fleets are pretty likely, to say the least.

I don't really care about hull graffiti, there's not much point when I'm usually staring at the enemy ships or mine's been blown half to hell and there's nothing but twisted metal wreckage covering it...
