Release dating
« on: September 19, 2012, 08:04:05 AM »

Someone explain this to me.

Most of this rage is levelled at Borderlands 2 (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/borderlands-2-finished-gearbox-now-working-on-dlc-6388153).

WHY?!

Why is there this ridiculous timespan between a release of a game that has been finished and actually reaching us?
Is it the press?
It's not even a matter of shipping! Digital distribution would solve that.  Most of these games are even in stores for what, a month prior to release?

What gives?

Perhaps translation? But that wouldn't make any sense if the game's already in the stores.

I guess it's just some marketing scheme again, as per usual.

Well part of the delay is mentioned in the article: the game needs to be certified for xbox 360 and ps3. Its debateable whether or not this step is needed, but I think its standard practice for microsoft/sony to check game titles to make sure they don't do anything nasty to the systems by accident. I have no idea why this would take 60 days: maybe its just extra time so that if a problem comes up the company wouldn't have to push back the release date.
