Passive buff ships
« on: August 23, 2012, 03:46:25 AM »

Alright

So the idea here would be having certain ships in your fleets would grant you passive abilities

What kind of ability you ask ?

Lets say....

TOW-ships:
may attach to another ship and act as an external booster,
multiple TOW ships may attach to a single craft

Effect:
Buff the travel speed of the slowest ship in the fleet,
allows to move faster on the world map, speed buff may not exceed max speed of TOW ships

Factory-ships:
Capable of converting weapons and/or fuel into supplies
may convert supplies into Weapons or fuel
also provides advanced logistical support

Effect:
Converts weapons and or fuel into supplies at a rate of 2 for 1
(2 small weapons = 1 supplies)
vice versa also applies
(2 supplies = 1 small weapon)

Also reduces the FP cost of ships in the fleet by a set percentage, ship effect stacks, may not reduce the FP cost of other factory ships

Disruptor Ships:
Ships doted of advanced Nucleon Lances, on use the nucleon lance fires over extreme ranges particles of chaos energy wich enter through a ship's hull straight into its reactor provoking light reactor malfunctions

Effect:
Reduce the speed of Fleets you are pursuing on the world map by a set percentage, effect of thoses ships stack

Just a few ideas I have, do tell if you have other pertinent ones

That'd be an interesting way to buff fleet speeds, but I think it's too complicated.  What we need is for ship travel speed to be separated from battle speeds, so that we can have a passive buff ship that raises the appropriate MutableValue per vessel in the fleet if < X.  It'd really, really be nice if fleets were able to be buffed, movement-wise; right now it's like Mount and Blade but without the ability to use your PC's abilities to move a little more rapidly across the map, and players seem to get penalized for fleet sizes much more strongly than the AI is, so I get minor fleets built and they're no longer able to catch anything that they can be expected to kill without fairly major risk (outside of auto-battle, but that's another story).

In Mount and Blade, this issue was handled very nicely in the Warband engine; modders are able to hook their own code into an engine callin and write their own algorithms to determine unit speeds.

While I don't mind the general idea, the math on that would be pretty important; if you can convert Supplies into weapons, you can build huge numbers of weapons and sell them at a profit, so it needs to be calibrated to require more Supplies than the weapon is worth (which, in most cases, would be about the same amount of cargo space, but not always).

Otherwise, players will just park outside safe bases, buy all the Supplies they can and turn them for a quick profit :)

Disruptor Ships... Reduce the speed of Fleets you are pursuing on the world map by a set percentage, effect of those ships stack
That sounds like something that would become a major balance issue.  Until enemy fleets in a local area can all join a battle, it'd give players a way to pick and choose easy auto-battle wins, amongst other things.

Tow ships sound neat.

Factory-ships….
How many times do we have to tell you. You can't make your own weapons!!

Disruptor ships fire…. chaos energy? Its like an original sci-fi movie…. -.-

DO TELL if you prefer to sit on a planet for hours just waiting for X faction to have Y weapon available in the shop...

go ahead and try to come up with something better...

IIRC it's the autofactories that build weapons as well, so factory ships in that vein are rather lore-unfriendly.

AS for the disruptor thing, that would be a hell of an annoying thing to balance. It would eliminate any drawback to having slow ships in your fleet

Nobody does that, but that doesn't mean you should be able to create weapons on a whim. And a ship that reduces FP costs is WAY OP.

No, I don't. Does that mean I should break the game by being able to make my own guns?
If ships could build weapons or other ships then hey, why don't we just get rid of planets instead?! :D
