Buffalo Fix
« on: August 19, 2012, 08:24:42 AM »

What would happen if the Buffalo replaced all the small missile slots with small univeral slots?  How would that affect if you sold a buffalo or not?  Personally, I think this might make the Buffalo Mk.II a whole lot more combat-capable because you'd be able to mount three light assault guns or railguns on one side.  You'd still have the OP to worry about, so it's balanced that way.  Any comments?

I think the MK2 is fine as it is. It can be outfitted to be quite survivable and capable. Like this.

And its also supposed to be pretty bad. As it is a poor combat conversion. And universals are not cheap/easy to make at all, so they dont fit the theme of the ship.

Missile rack= put metal outside of ship, put missile on metal, wire up to weapon system wirelessly or such, press button
Universal=cater for energy weapons, ballistics and missiles, which means you've gotta get ammo feeders, power supplies etc.

how i changed mine:

- turned the 2 small missiles on the sides into mediums
- medium upfront turned into another small energy
- added a rear facing small energy turret for engine defense

the 2 mediums on the sides gives it good tactical flexibility in that it can stay in the back and offer proper fire support with pods / LRMs, or do strafeing runs against cruisers / capitals with torpedoes.

turning the medium missile into anything else was a no go since it has like no capacity or dissipation lol, so another small energy seemed fitting.

aside from guarding the engine, it also makes it so that enemies in the back or chasing don't get free shots in.

I don't think its supposed to be combat capable in the first place.
Once you're actually hauling stuff around the galaxy it'll fall into its role perfectly.

Aye, the buffalo MK2 actually has so little fuel and cargo that its utterly useless for hauling. In addition it has the same max crew and crew requirement, meaning you have 0 extra crew and if one guy dies and you have no extra somewhere else you're ***.

I still think it should be cheaper for what it is.  :P

Making the Buffalo cheaper would ruin them in their primary capacity as early-game income.

Maybe next update we'll get trading or mining or something to help in the early game.
