I like to use an assault gun in the small turret and a Flack Cannon in the main turret. This allows me to punch through armor easily, murder hull, and shoot down missiles. Also, give the Hound Maneuvering Jets so it can move faster. Don't forget to use your flares if Salamanders get behind you.

Well, since I'm the only person who rates the difficulty level, it's no surprise it isn't particularly balanced. :)
