Ohhhhh-yah
« on: August 08, 2012, 11:25:09 AM »

Anyone of you have even heard of the new free-to-play/indie/whatever-console they are making?
And if so, anyone planing to get one or even donated at the kickstarter?

For me, I'm waiting for the release and the critics, I don't trust it right now. :P

If interested look here: www.ouya.tv

Edit: Woops, forgot to mention the name of the console... :D
It's OUYA, silly me.

I have serious doubts.

I do want it to succeed, though.

I'm unsure....

It sounds good, a little TOO good for what they promise. (Essentially, the promise a console on an mobile platform (The Android), and i don't trust that that can go very well :/)

Android is not strictly a 'mobile' platform. Sure, that's what it was made to fit, but i'm certain it can be ajusted for a wide variety of uses.

People are talking like it got the specs of a PS3/XBOX, when in reality its specs are pretty terrible. It cant be used for newer games like battlefield and such. But it can be used as a emulator for older games. Ive heard the price was gonna be 100 dollars. And at that price it is probably pretty ***. Not a alternative for the other consoles if parents think that. More of a home emulator.

It's actually 99 dollars :P

Also, here are the specifications (copy pasted from their kickstarter website):

Tegra3 quad-core processor
1GB RAM
8GB of internal flash storage
HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth LE 4.0
USB 2.0 (one)
Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
Android 4.0
ETHERNET! (Announced by Muffi 7/18)

I don't think it's just an emulator/can only be used as one. Of corse it's nothing like a PS3 or a XBOX, but it's not meant to be one either.
I don't want to defend the OUYA, I only want to make this clear.

Tegra3 quad-core processor
Games look AWESOME on Tegra 2, and that's only dual core (dad's Asus Transformer) like the Arma 2 firing simulator has arguably better graphics/runs better than Arma 2 on the XPS l702x he uses for work, and that has a quad core i7

In my opinion it doesn't really have to.
