Usefull Buffalo MK-II builds!
« on: August 03, 2012, 11:23:52 AM »

Have been experimenting with the Buffalo MK-II after the introduction of the Shield generator hullmod, and i actually found a build that is quite useful.

This build can take down other Buffalos and Hounds, and serves as great fire support at the back of my lines. Very useful early game if you capture one for free.

Anyone else have any functioning builds?

EDIT:

The AI wins vs all of these ships, making it a quite useful addition to any fleet.

- Hound
- Standard Lasher
- Brawler
- Shade
- Afflictor
- Buffalo MK-2
- Talon Wing
- Piranha Wing

Also, i made a new build that is slightly more optimised vs enemies with EMP capabileties. (Salamanders, Ion cannons, EMP Emittors)

I do want to see the basic buffalo mk 2's reinforced bulkheads replaced with a frontal shield generator, as it seems certainly like a good idea to me. It's not like the reinforced bulkheads help, but they just make them last a bit longer in fire. And honestly, it doesn't help them.

This thing can make a nice dirt cheap anti fighter/light frigate escort for your condor or tarsus.

Just tested it out, managed to take out 3 talon wings and a piranha wing with the PD setup, it doesn't do too well against shielded frigates since it doesn't have many weapons with punch.

Try putting a proximity charge thing on it. It'll own the fighters, AND it can hurt stuff

I'm not sure what a 'proximity charge thing' is or where to get one during campaign.

Previously known as the "Phase Charge Launcher"

I hadn't really used that at all, can the AI use it capably? The PD Buffalo I set up was meant to be a competent escort in AI hands.

Phase Charge Launcher was uber-OP before patch, I'm curious how it works out now. It's probably still a very powerful weapon against fighters, so definitely worth checking out.

I actually feel like it is better now, especially on the Mk-II, as it can still murder an entire fighter wing in 1 shot.

It kinda feels like a powerful bomblauncher now, and i love it.

x2 IR Pulse Lasers, x3 Harpoons, x2 Light Assault Guns, Frontal Shield Generator, Extended Shields, rest to capacitors or vents.  Very good, really.

even the default buffalo is pretty scary in groups now with the rapid missile re loader. i skimmed in with my starting wolf to 2 buffaloes sitting behind some fighters and within seconds my screen was literally filled with missiles it scared the crap out of me and i skimmed my arse right out of there as fast as i could. admittedly most of the missiles were salamanders but they can still pack a punch if they get through your shields and well that was a lot of salamanders.

Also I totally had the name BEFORE the cruiser.
