A "Help section"
« on: July 13, 2012, 12:18:18 PM »

I think it would be a good idea for a "help" section in the forum to be setup. this section would be all about answering all the many small questions that new people to the forum might have trouble finding, or just might not know about... like how to edit your profile.

I hope you guys understand what i'm getting at here, and I thought this was a worthwhile suggestion.

I think this would be a very good idea! New folks often don't use the search function and I think might get scared away when they get immediately told that they did something wrong. Other times people who are new try to search, don't know quite enough to hit the right keywords, then get scowled at even though they tried. This suggestion would also spare the other subforums from repeat questions that might annoy people.

No, I would prefer if it was somewhat more "official" than that, although I could see the more senior members of the forum contributing.

I was putting together a noobs guide to modding, it has now been added to an even bigger guide to modding, I'll post the link here when i find it
Edit:
Turns out it's just a huge spriters guide which explains the various forms of spriting we commonly use here and how to do them

Brilliant suggestion. Make a subforum called the "Help forum" and add a ton of simple stickey threads like : Buying 1 item at a time, switching player ship, and other newbie questions. Then they can ask what ever they want in the rest of forum. Great idea!

Make sure that somewhere in there it says: "Don't ask for multiplayer."

Maybe then people would FINALLY get the message.

I'm still quite afraid they wouldn't people should really learn to use the "Search" button. In fact, it should say, bolded, when you register:
"Use the "search" button before posting, so that you can learn wether or not it has been posted before. It'll save us a great deal of time."

i highly doubt people would read it anyway...and even if they DO read it many are just too lazy to actually do it....

and you can probably count on many more being created....even though its obviously stated in faq on the main page etc.... people are just obsessed by MP nowadays...
this game would just get tainted by MP....and while COOP could work id rather have great SP game than mediocre SP with COOP....

Lets move away from any specific subjects, because i would think that a help section would contain as much information it reasonably can. the section would exist just to get people into the know, so that they don't need to ask questions that have been asked before.
