Make your own mission

I can't believe this game doesn't have a simple "pick you ships, pick their ships, go for it" option.

I'd love to make my own missions, how does one go about doing it?

The option will be added later on, I'm sure. In the meantime, you'll have to make a mod. Luckily, this isn't as difficult as one might think. Start here, download and install the first example mod, and have a play with the included mission definition.
