Soooo I have a slight issue. I can't even open your file... I have done other mods by just extracting them to mods in starfarer but I can't seem to do that. Then again I haven't used Dropbox before. Any suggestions for a free program do open it with?

Huh, that is weird. Usually, you just download the file, move the file to the mods folder, and just extract it using winrar or 7zip. Both are free of charge.

I generally don't even need 7zip the wizard program that comes with windows can extract most mods to the mod folder.meh gonna try again tomorrow.

Just started looking at this mod. I'm noticing a reoccurring theme with the Codex. When I'm looking through ship hulls and descriptions, I have no idea what faction ship I'm looking at. Been only playing this game a week and testing different mods and I can tell you, from the perspective of a new player - this is frustrating. Super easy to fix most likely and I bet none of the mods have put the faction of the ships in the description of the codex. It should be the first line of the description. I guess its something easy to overlook but would really help new players familiarize themselves with the different factions within your mod. This goes for all mods not just this one. More to follow..

In the near future I would like to help out more with some of these very ambitious mods. I can't say how lucky I feel to have stumbled upon this game and this modding community recently. Keep up the inspirational work!

Hey, and welcome to the forums

Hmm, i never really imagined people would have trouble ID'ing those ships, since, the name is a giveaway (the faction initials, for example, the CDF, would always show up before a ships name in the campaign. True to word, this doesn't apply to the raw codex).

Ya, I could give you a few examples as to why a person would be combing through the Codex. The biggest one though is when I'm starting a new mod. I like to try the faction out with the artwork I like the best. Haven't been able to do that so well, makes it even worse when you have a compilation with over 100 ships. Even though some of the artwork is distinct its not always obvious. Once I get more familiar with the code I don't mind doing a little grunt work and filling in some descriptions on the Codex. Let me know if you need anything like that done, I'd be happy to help. Might need a little push since I haven't looked at the code yet.

I've started so far with the CDF ships.

Ya I was looking at the files and found the codex info. I'll see what I can whip up for you by tomorrow and send you a copy for review. You can keep what you like and turf what you don't.

Ya, anything would help. I'm looking for any background and/or storyline you can provide me with. The format I'm going to be using is: Line#1 Brief explanation of the ship role. Line#2 Lore. Upgradecap if you want me to start with any particular faction let me know. That way we don't overlap our efforts.

Right. Well, i'd love to see you get to work on the Sidus Dim (The green-ish ships). I haven't done any work on them so far. What i have thought up for them is that all of their ship designs are outsourced to different manufacturers, allowing for a bigger industry. They make the blueprints themselves, though.

Okay, quick disclaimer - I know some of the "lore" is just an evaluation of the combat role on some of these ships. The point is to get something into the descriptions in the campaign mode and the Codex to provide this mod with a more finished feel. I am willing to add more, this is just a start. Please feel free to provide any constructive feedback so I can make these as good as possible before I make a full submission to the file.

Ship: Anzac
Role: Anti-Fighter
Lore: Originally built for scouting areas for pirates before mining
operations the Sidus Dim upgraded the hull and shield so it could
sustain more damage in fights against better, well equipped enemies. It
is now one of most used fighters in the Sidus Dim fleet due to it's low
price and survivability.

Ship: Chimera
Role: Anti-Frigate Fighter
Lore: With an Assault Chaingun and pair of Swarmers, project Chimera
was devised by Sidus Dim engineers to be the hard counter for enemy
frigates seeking to gain information on sensitive corporate projects.
Used initially to ambush enemy scouts in nearby asteroid belts, the
Chimera soon became widely popular with corporate standing fleets.

Ship: Ardent
Role: Tactical Frigate
Lore: Cleverly rerouted engine inertia provides this must have frigate
with the ability to launch Smart Mines out a rear hatch at surprising
velocities. Combined with an additional Mark II Mine Launcher and flown
by a clever pilot, this Frigate can easily be a match for most Cruisers.

Ship: Dextra
Role: Ultra-Light Support Carrier
Lore: Truly one of a kind, the Dextra was in development for over 20
years. This frigate has hangar space for five Chimera Attack Wings.
Arguably, the space folding technology used to pull off this amazing
feat of engineering by Sidus Dim scientist's baffles even the most
brilliant minds. This small, unassuming ship is a testament to Sidus Dim
ingenuity.

Ship: Elektroid
Role: Heavy Assault Destroyer
Lore: Lots of armor and decent flux/dmg shield ratio make this ship an
essential part of any corporate fleet. Hard to kill, it makes for an
excellent distraction when a Fleet Commander needs a few moments to
reorganize his/her fleet.

Ship: Ares
Role: Multi-purpose Destroyer
Lore: Created to fill many roles, this well rounded Sidus Dim Destroyer is
fitted with hi-tech energy weapons. Ares combat speed can be used to
great advantage, to get to all those hard to reach places.

Ship: Sickle
Role: Freighter
Lore: Pinned with the daunting task of supplying an economical empire,
this Sidus Dim design is the mule of the empire. Moderately armed and
armored, this freighter is intelligently designed to survive skirmishes
intact.

Ship: Deity
Role: Assault Carrier
Lore: The Deity is one of the more vulnerable carriers in the Sidus Dim
fleet because of it's low armor rating and hull integrity; however, with its
Phase Skimming tech and two flight decks, this ship can be used to
devastating effect. With it's six medium energy mounts it can easily
dispatch the unwary.

Ship: Devastator
Role: Frontline Battleship
Lore: This frontline battleship comes with high armor rating and hull
integrity to withstand massive assaults. This war machine first rolled out
when the Sidus Dim conquest began and has since then been improved
upon. One modification that was done recently, is the EPC Flux drive
which increases the flux capacity at the expense of flux dissipation.

Missing: stormwolf + nebula. *working on it

Oh, wow. Those are awesome. Short, descriptive, and good for newbies who just want a quick glance at the ship without being forced to read the entire codex entry. Love 'em. :D
