Alternative camera scheme
« on: May 08, 2012, 01:01:02 PM »

I'm curious if there is any interest in a camera that rotates to match the orientation of the player's ship. I personally would love an alternative to the default camera.

Interesting idea. I'll skip this one though, it would probably just make me nauseous.

I'd make less mistakes with shields I think. But it might confuse things a bit on the command side.
Option please yes

I think it would be hard to orient sometimes.
The icons on edge of the screen is not exactly pointing at the enemis and objectives in the standard camera.
Even now I have to look at the tactical map to see where I should fly.

But I may be wrong, it would not hurt to have the choise.

Actually, now I think about it, Starfarer is in space. The fixed view gives us a fixed reference point when everything apart from beacons and nebulae is flying around. The option would be nice, but I'm just pointing out why it's fixed.

I'd definitely be interested in trying it out. Would make circling ships a little less awkward.

I don't see myself using this feature, because I think it'd make aiming rather difficult, and it would probably give me one hell of a headache.

Actually tried this early on in development. Wasn't good - nausea-inducing due to stuff spinning around, and just didn't feel right at all.

Enough of a pain to code that I don't see offering it as an option, either - sorry :)

The lighter frigates would be hellish. And that's before one of their engines gets knocked out

Disable camera rotation while engine is out?

In short, if you throw a stone out of the rear window of your spaceship you will go faster.

Though this would make me go in the completely wrong direction all the time.

Maybe i should make another gameplay video with that and spin the camera with a flaming out tempest. Oh and with the interface on just for kicks. And i'll use this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJv5qLsLYoo
