Bounding Shields.

Similar to Hull Bounds, for shaping the shield.

Any chance of it happening, Alex?

That's kind of a cool idea.

Would have to be mindful of omni shields with this but frontal shields would work nicely I guess.

Instead of a moving shield have a invisible shield arc that activates the parts of the shield bound that are inside the arc.

Honestly, none whatsoever :) The way shields work is an integral part of the gameplay, and I don't see changing it.

Not saying it's not an interesting idea, mind.

Mostly interested for mod usage*, I like the vanilla ships working the way they do.

Thanks for the answer, mate. I'd lock the topic for you if it were an option.

(*Wanted my faction to have hexagonal shields, specifically.)

What about instead of having an arc measured in degrees, have a curved line measured in (insert measurement here) length?  In the case of an omni-shield, the line would just move with the midpoint lined up between the mouse cursor and the center point of the ship/shield projector along an invisible predetermined "track" that stretches around the whole ship.  This could handle the issue of varying shield raising speed depending on the position of where the shield is raised relative to the curve angle, and having an arc that needs to take special calculations into consideration for an ellipse.  Instead of "Shield Arc", the display would say something like "Protection Coverage" with the number in a percentage of active shield length compared to the total length of the previously mentioned "track." Just my idea on the issue, what do you guys think? :-\

Of course, this would require a complete re-work of how the shields are done and would probably render all mods incompatible...

Please do not post in threads as old as this unless you have something really important to add. In this case it was clearly stated that idea had no chance of being implemented.

No harm done, just for the future :)

Locked.
