Other games
« on: April 18, 2012, 04:25:08 AM »

Well, since we actually have off-topic forum and it clearly states 'other games' in its description - here are a couple of indie games i`ve been monitoring/VIPing/alphing recently:

Endless Space. http://endless-space.amplitude-studios.com/

A new vision of classic space 4x games. This game is unusual and yet very familiar. It has a three stage combat where you can assign actions to your fleet and watch how those impact on your game. It has a 4-branch techtree with lots of techs that is made like a flower with all branches pointing in different directions from the center. They are going to have 8 playable factions each being inferior to others. And they have a powerful Games2Gether project that allows any registered person to participate in game`s development by voting on several dev-created pools.

Xenonaughts. http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/game/xenonauts/

A nice refinement of ORIGINAL Xcom series. An indie competitor to Firaxis Xcom:EU. I have faith in this game as it is more that just a rehaul/remake - there are lots of completely new features such as controllable air combat and infinite conventional human weapons (standard rifles, ammo, rockets etc.). The game also takes place in 1970th during the cold war with 'real' weapons and vehicles. Xenonaught devs are working on a nice kickstarter project that will bring more items into the game if enough money is accumulated. The features are not essential and are more for aesthetics and fun.

All games are planned to be released this year. Normally i hate such 'advertisements', but both games deserve this IMHO.

basically, yes. you vote for art and gameplay elements that the dev is deciding which to put into the game they are creating.
