k, i got a picture up of all the ships so far in order of size.
EDIT:feedback is appreciated.
Hello, Cordacc! Nice little family of hulls you've got here.
You requested feedback, so I'll begin with the graphics.
The
color of your hulls needs help in some cases. I refer to the second, third and fourth hulls
from the left side in your original post's picture.
That white ovoid area you used is something which blends poorly with the rest of each ship's hull. It looks as if it's the command section of a larger Tri-Tachyon ship, simply plunked down onto the graphics beneath it with little care for how it contrasts much too strongly against the rest of your 3 ships I mentioned.
I recommend taking that reused section's all-white color and changing it to something darker. Even just a mild light grey would help greatly. Even better would be adding a hue to it to better match the actual base hull color for each of those three ships (tan, brown, or blue). It's not a big change I'm requesting, but it will make those 3 ships look much less kitbashed.
BTW your latest "big-ship.gif" needs the same treatment, too.
I also enjoy the shapes of your hulls. They're obviously strongly inspired by existing official hulls, but you've executed these designs in a way that makes them refreshingly different. The little hulls on the right side of your image are somewhat more derivative of official ones (the reworked Sunder is too easy to spot), but overall they're pretty solid.
Your new big ship has a fascinating shape! The only point of concern I have is that the side sponsons which flank the central hull appear to be attached much too weakly. Those narrow little connection beams look like they'd snap off from the mass of those large port and starboard sections. if you enlarged those connectors to be
double their present thickness, it would be less of a distraction from an otherwise
superb-looking hull.
I look forward to seeing more of your art in the future. I'm next going to attempt to play Rising Sun in the campaign game, in order to gauge its actual battlefield performance.
