Escape Ai instant-retreated 2 ships

For some reason, upon starting a battle with the AI escaping, after about 3 seconds, I got a notification saying one of the AI ships retreated... quickly followed by another notification saying a second AI ship retreated. No idea why this happened. My battlefield was very long and narrow however (6000x24000 as I recall)

Hmm. Is it easily reproducible? Mind posting the mission definition?

I'll check on reproducibility; atm my router is flubbing out and thus I can't connect to the internet with that computer, so it might be a while before I can post it.

I did manage to act quickly & snap a screenshot showing the two messages
