Welp Ive found my favorite way to play Starsector + Nexerelin
« on: November 28, 2020, 05:30:37 PM »

So I've recently started playing Starsector again and been having just a blast I wanted to talk about my settings here. Im trying to use nearly all the mods, (at least the major ones that are very popular) , and here is what it looks like.

Derelict Sector scenario with Blade Breaker Deserter Escort Cruiser start, and more faction mods that i believe should be allowed to be used at one time  :D

Blade Breaker Deserter starts are suppose to be hard but its really not that hard as a sizable handful of factions are neutral with me Id say this start is actually pretty easy. Just pal around a system killing Derelict fast pickets enough and one of the factions will be happy to commission me.  After that I've started over a few time for various reasons. Like my first colony not making me any money no matter how much I invest in it. (one time) Or forgetting to save at all during my run then finding a game crashing bug when the loot table for a Derelict carrier couldnt find what weapon it was using. (another time that i had restored a very interesting modded ship at the Repair docks and was just trying to build up a fleet and bank up enough to justify bring it out RIP) Or Going out to chase down a easy looking bounty only to find that some sorta large Pirate ball had just moments earlier already taken the bounty fleet out. Then sighting me surprised me by actually having a higher burn level. I wasnt that upset yet figured id just do my normal disengage strategy. Use my awesome Cruisers flicker jumps to slowly kite the brunt of the forces while my support fleet retreats, but apparently i forgot how to fly and my flicker jumps kept dashing me straight into the middle of the death ball even though my mouse was clearly pointing behind me. (another time and yes i was alittle upset)

Still each time i try this start ive been enjoying it. What do you all think about Derelict sector and Blade Breaker Deserters?

Not sure how DME flicker specifically works, but base game (And diable) "flickers" or "blinks" will move you in the direction of your ships current momentum (Which is barely visible based on the movement of the "space dust" near the ship). The blinks will end facing either in the direction of whatever you have targeted or, if nothing is targeted, the direction of your mouse.

I see That musta been what happened I did not take into account that i was targeting a ship probably I cant remember the engagement well enough. You do sound correct tho "flickers" or which ever terminology you want to use for its ability work the same way on this ship. It is a very cool ship is it not?

I'm glad you like it.

In the dev version, I've changed up the ship system to a non-teleporting dash, more in line with what I initially wanted. That's a little more controllable; you can use it to instantly change direction once you get the hang of it.

Well to kick this off I tend to like starting off as a freelancer and generally only ever use Corvus Sector. When I did the BB deserter start last time I did the Brave Blade start since it was really strong. Its strength was not a lie though since pumping it up with combat skills meant that you could solo mid level pirate fleets with ease in the time you get.

Can't really say anything about derelict sector as I've never used it. Right now, I'm doing a vanilla fleet run using the start that gives you a Heron, a Hammerhead, and a Brawler and running around hitting up bounties.

I do enjoy being about to instantly change direction, It feels very powerful. Especially in my sector with all the Derelict fleets running about. Last night I even pounced on a very weakened wall type Derelict I was a little intimidated but confident that I could stay on its engines and take down the remainder of its hull, and any time a small derelict drone wants to try to lay into my engines i can flip around very easily or back up and vent very quickly.

I have not Tried the Brave Blade, but I am intrigued because it says its a Super ship and That makes me very curious. I also wonder about weather or not the random chance exists for finding derelict Blade Breaker ships out in the wilds of space, or blueprints. After  my last run where I failed to turn out a profitable colony this time I thought; Hey why not just sell these blue prints. Perhaps if i sold the starter blueprints and go for a more rogue combaty run, I would see that faction eventually produce Blade Breaker ships in there fleets and then they might get disabled and scattered about. While I pocketed that cash I also decided to make my fleet consist of nothing but SO Hounds Venoms and non SO'd Rock Hounds, and any other cheap expendable cargo + i find. Load them out with common anti Armor weapons and just swarm Derelict Merchants. My Contribution to the war effort!
