The best fighter/bomber combo/ratio for a carrier fleet?
« on: July 03, 2020, 11:55:18 AM »

I am currently using Lux fighter/Dagger Bomber 3/1 atm. Any other more efficient build for a carrier fleet?

Broadsword/Kopesh 2/1 or 2/2 depending on the bay count is surprisingly effective for a lighter OP build if you find yourself wanting more hullmods or weapons.

I find it's less about the wings I use and more about how I fit them to my carriers. Bombers on Astrals, Fighters/Interceptors on Drovers (I prefer sparks), Thunders if using slow carriers like the Mora, nothing on Condors which go straight into the garbage. I like bombers with tracking missiles; I find Kopeshes, Perditions, and Cobras miss too easily. I like non-bombers only if they are crazy fast and dominate other fighters/frigates to keep my bombers (and fleet) protected, so I tend to go with interceptors rather than heavy fighters, which feel like a waste to me.

Pure carrier fleet? I would do half - half.

But I personally would do 4-1 fighter to bomber ratio and put in some "carrier-less bombers". These would be cheaply fitted scrappy ships with heavy hitter weapons and with no PD and defensive hullmods. Stuff like Sunders, Hammerheads, almost any frigate. They will usually be safe because fighters distract the AI so much. and as long as you have more fighters you should be winning the fighter v fighter battle.

100% lonbows all day every day.
Or, if I'm spamming missiles, 50% LB /50% spark+lux. Any other fighter is a waste.

If you're going for a pure, disgusting fighter spam, go for Sparks. If you're playing without minmaxing, I prefer taking 1 Broadsword wing for every 2 bombers. Meaning one Broadsword wing & 2 bomber wings for ships smaller than an Astral and 2 Broadsword wings & 4 bomber wings for an Astral.

I don't often bother with escorts for my bombers any more and just go for mass bombers. I can then leave my fighters to be used as small gunships that can hang around enemy targets with their heavier guns.

Longbow bombers are however an essential component to breaking open heavy targets and EMPing them.

I prefer cobra bombers for their reaper torpedoes.

I use only bombers on Astral.  It is protected well enough by the rest of my fleet.  (Playership Astral can just run to the wall to hide and spam bombers with its system if trying to solo a fleet.)  I put at least two Longbows.  I also like one or two Daggers because are effective against frigates and everything else.  From there, probably Khopesh or Cobras, maybe more Daggers.

I have found that 2 broadsword escort is better than full bomber loadout, though with 2 longbows, rest other bombers works just as well. More damage, but less reliability.

Me as well. Sparks might be better at dealing with other strike craft, but the flares really shut down PD so your squadron doesn't take many losses and the kinetic damage of the dual machine guns is nothing to sniff at either.

It depends what’s on what you are fighting.  When I go carrier heavy, I suppose I end up going 1/1/1 interceptor/fighter/bomber as my default loadout.
