What are story points?

So I've never really gotten further than 4+ hours into a game before starting over so I haven't really figured this out yet.

How do I get them? How many can I get? Is it possible to max out or do I need to pick wisely?

What did you put your points into???

Some people have a tendency to talk about yet to be implemented features as if they exist already. I'm not sure why. Personally, I don't see the point of speculating or talking as if you know how it will work, and would rather wait to see how it works. It could change or it could take a while before it is implemented.
