If you haven't read the latest blog post yet, keep in mind they will be playable in the next release with a certain skill.
Me and SCC already gave you an answer to that earlier in this thread.

It is something that you'll need to specialise your character into however.

I wonder what the alternative is? Do you get anti-remnant bonuses or something? Can I go full ludd?

I see it now!!! Thank you :)

From what I gathered from the blog is that there are skills that let you use remnant tech.

I found it here:

Of the Remnant ships, the only one that feels truly overpowered is the Radiant.  The others feel "like 'just' strong high-tech ships".  If I take Automated Ships, it would be mostly for Radiant.  If Radiant gets weakened (worse stats or costs 60+ DP to use) to be on par with other Remnants, then the only reason to get Automated Ships would be to collect ships.  That seems kind of lame compared to the other Tech 5 skill Alex revealed, the one that raises the built-in mod limit from two to (I think) three.  It is easy to get greedy where OP is concerned.

When I fight Ordos, two Ordos without any Radiants is easier than a single Ordos with two or three Radiants.

The thing about fighting radiants is that they can usually disengage easily, which is their main strength. I usually only start going at ordos once I can afford losing capital ships in a fight.

I've fought against ordos without a single Capital ship. You don't need capitals to fight ordos.

Anyways, what make a ship strong on not, is their value per DP. The other Remnant ships might be a little bit underpointed, but only the Radiant stands out as being outstandingly powerful for its DP. It's hard to particularily care about the other remnant ships when the Tempest and Drover exists.

I'm not yet at the point where I could do that.

What's so special about Drover, though? Never used it.

What's so special about Drover, though? Never used it.

High speed, good OP/flux stats (for a carrier), good platform to spam Salamanders (4 small missile slots).
But most importantly the ship system, which makes it's 2 bays close to effectively 3 AND makes it almost impossible to drain Drover's replenishment rate (at least way harder than with any other carrier).

The radiant is purposefully designed to cull the weak from your fleet.  It's phase jumping makes it incredibly nimble and it WILL take down unprotected capitals.  The rest of the remnant are quite manageable with some basic focus fire and anti-shield weaponry.

Now, if you're playing with the Archean Order mod, it's a WHOLE different and altogether much more frightening story...

I'll try the Drover out then, thanks! I saw a vid somewhere of a guy taking down 3 remnant Ordo fleets with nothing but 1 mora and a load of drovers, all loaded with spark interceptors.

This was one of the videos I made recently. The drover is quite powerful because as TaLaR said, the ships built in ability to replenish ships without costing anything to the carriers replenishment rate. In the video I only used 200 deployment points worth of ships, you can have 25 drovers(300 max DP) instead of the 15 and a Mora I used.

The Sparks are advisable because you will not need to replenish the crew after battles as well as the high damage per shot. This helps a lot to defeat the armor calculations this game uses.

If you cannot get sparks, broadswords(main armor dps) with Talons(great anti shield) work well along with some Thunders(EMP) to disable enemy systems. Drover should be relatively easy to acquire at multiple factions including black markets.

If you are trying for a cheap carrier only fleet you can get away with Condor with Broadswords and Talons, though you may take significant losses even against a single Odor fleet.

broadswords(main armor dps) with Talons(great anti shield)

Broadswords have LMGs... kinetics... (and thus are anti shield not armor)

Talons are armed with vulcans and are very inefficient at everything except missile killing. Sending Talons vs an Ordo guarantees heavy crew losses

Talons have Swarmers and actually quite good at dealing damage to armor. While they exist that is. Same goes for Wasps.

Use Thunders for the monotype spam. They have everything and pretty good for ordering them across the whole battlefield. Broadswords are more of a fleet fighter. They come to the enemy line and stay there waiting for the heavy ordnance to arrive. But they need to be deployed in the presence of the ships which hurl the said ordnance.

So, I tried Drover Spark spam. I think this can deal with anything but star fortresses.

EDIT:

The effectiveness of this is absolute lunacy. I managed to get over 70 alpha cores due to this
