Nonorganic crew for T3 ships
« on: March 16, 2012, 09:02:06 AM »

Suggestion is simple, t3 ships (currently ships are lowtech and hightech, next tier is futuretec) with nonorganic crew allowed.

No new hulls reqired, ships like hyperion and paragon can be classified as t3 without any problems.

T3 ships shoud accumulate exp by it's own after every fight and nonorganic crew follow exp level of ship, nonorganics dont need life support and able to keep ship hull "alive" 100% of time if it's not scrapped by enemy after combat.
Fleet of T3 ships will never loose anything as long as not completely wiped in combat.

Suggestion also include more levels of crew:
Green
Trained
Regular
Veteran
Specialist
Expert
Elite
Godlike
with major effects on ship stats and smooth distribution of bonuses.

Also ships shoud have they own levels, regular crew on hightech ships will act like green (-2 tier penalty) and on futuretec ships expert crew reqired to get any bonuses.

Nonorganic crew also shoud have procs and cons, like crew casualties from EMP damage.

not going to lie. tl;dr. and saw T3 and instantly thought ... EVE Online.

also after i went back and read your post. I wouldn't think of the ships as in "Tiers" per-Se so much as "generations"

why.. because "tier" implies that tier 2 is better than tier 1 and tier 3 would be better than both tier 1 and 2. in most if not all ways. and the game does not work that way. (at least in this Alpha build)

i believe your "non organic" crew would work better as either a hull mod (AI controlled ship for huge OP hit) or as a separate form of life (Silicoids from Moo2) or (Horta from star trek http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devil_in_the_Dark)

your suggestion for extra crew levels is interesting but i would wonder what kind of EXP you expect each member to achieve for each level there. currently its at 0 xp green at 250 xp normal at 750 xp veteran at 1750 xp elite. and it currently takes quite a while and some luck getting elites without purchasing them.

also to be critical

i would say
green (untrained)
trained (graduated basic training)
regular (been in the service for a short time possibly deployed or not)
specialist (extra training after boot camp in a certain field likely been deployed)
veteran (seen his fair share of battle)
expert (you follow what he says when he says it to the letter if he says jump you ask how high)
elite (leader of the experts "commissioned officer")
Godlike (so like... im impervious to bullets.. WATCH THIS... AKA you.  ;) OR high ranking officer)

You won't be able to refit fighters and bombers at all. They're designed/balanced around having a particular set of weapons and would be very broken if you could change it. Which ones you pick for your fleet -out of quite a few that are available- is the choice here, not how they're outfitted.

Because high tech ships need to be better than they are.

The idea is that the various tech levels represent different - not "better" - ways to do things.

This.

They're already lopsided as hell in terms of balance.  We don't need to give them more bonuses.

Also, we have 3 tech levels right now.

Low-Tech, Midline, and High-Tech.
