Veteran Fleet Advice for Fast Ships?
« on: October 24, 2019, 03:59:18 AM »

Hey, new player and been playing for like... 5 days straight now (yea I'm addicted.) Anyway, I've resisted asking basic questions until now and I'm glad. It's been a pretty wild ride just figuring everything out. I've mostly been running around getting new ships, sneaking into bases and stuff. Trading and selling stuff from place to place. I'm a glorified UPS guy!

I made a huge decision the other day. Literally sold every ship slower than 110 speed and bought a ton of fast ships. I max the cargo space on every ship and just do smuggling runs. The expenses of my trips have fallen DRASTICALLY and I'm making a pretty penny off drug smuggling... However.... I see no way of killing some of the bulkier fleets with this setup. So my question is simple: What advice do you have for building a strong/powerful fleet under my speed parameters. And is it viable to accomplish late game feats with basically just frigates? Thanks!

There are cruisers like the Falcon that, with the right hull mods (such as Safety Overrides), can achieve the speeds you're looking for.

You should also keep Burn level high ( like 16 is mandatory, 18 or 20 is ideal). There are not many cruiser (and no battleships) in vanilla that can do 18 burn without some serious investment with Augumented Drive , but it's possible.

That can be solved through liberal application of Ox (apply directly to the forehead).

Depends what you want to do. If you specialise in smuggling, how big a fleet do you want to kill? Not many fleets should be able to catch you that can threaten you if you have Nav Skill 3, even if they have +3 Burn Nav buoy and those that do can be safely disengaged. Of course, once you do add in bigger ships to fight bigger fleets, it is possible that your fleet is too big and you cannot disengage any more, and now you cannot safely sneak into bases. So you have to choose.
