Cruiser or Capital?
« on: October 14, 2019, 06:39:56 AM »

So I was kitbashing together a high tech tanker and this is the result:

(EDIT: Changed to a comparison picture, on the left is a Destroyer (which Cruisers are larger than), and on the right is a Capital.)

Now, my problem is I was aiming for a cruiser, which this seems to be bigger than by a head and wider too.
However it's also smaller than a capital ship, leaving it in this nebulous space.

Civilian ships are a fair bit larger than their combat counterparts so just slimming it a bit would do the trick for a cruiser.

I may have also been confusing a Destroyer for a Cruiser, so... XD

Hm, yeah, I'd say that looks to be in that annoying inbetween space - a little bit big for a cruiser, but a little bit small for a capital.  Kindof like the Shrike and the Falcon, for being inbetween sizes.

As such, I'd say it ought to be classified as a capital ship, but given stats that are closer to cruiser-level.  (I'd also suggest making it a functional combat freighter, but then, I suggest that about anything civilian; I'm not much a fan of ships that are just stat-sticks you'd never want to deploy.)

If you want it to have cruiser gameplay, just leave it as a cruiser. As a capital ship it'd get huge range and high-impact hullmods.

Blunting the nose a little might do a fair bit to make it feel smaller.

That did it. It's a shame because I worked quite hard to get the nose to fit, but in the end it not only fits better, but looks better without it.
