[HELP] Police Brutality in Hong Kong
« on: August 11, 2019, 09:43:16 AM »

I am calling for fellow starfarers to help my city, Hong Kong.

As you may have known, Hong Kong has been in a state of civil unrest for 2 months, with multiple protests every week, usually ending in clashes between the protesters and police.

Tonight is the worst.

(WARNING: may contain graphic content)

Police firing tear gas canisters, restricted for outdoor use, into a railway station

A girl get shot in the head by beanbag round

She lost her eye due to globe rupture

brutal maltreatment of protester even when they're already under arrest

Police firing tear gas canisters, restricted for outdoor use, into a railway station

A girl get shot in the head by beanbag round

She lost her eye due to globe rupture

Diagnosis of the girl

brutal maltreatment of protester even when they're already under arrest

Assaulting retreating protesters/commuters alike in a railway station, including shooting pepper ball at almost point blank range

The attack was indiscriminate, with elderly among the victims

I hereby plead you to spread the words around, the world need to know about this atrocity. Please sign this petition. The Hong Kong Police Force is no longer serving the citizens it vowed to protect, they must be held accountable for their crime.

I feel bad for you, but petitions rarely, if ever, work. USA doesnt have much influence over what happens in Hong Kong.

That's definitely the goal here; the Chinese gov't will no doubt blame "hooligans" for what's going on and march the PLA in.  Perhaps that's why they've been building up their capabilities in the South China Sea, in preparation for possible implications of same, including embargos.

From the looks of things, it appears that Xi intends to move the PAP (basically, the PLA's internal-police arm) into Hong Kong.  If so, the international reaction would be quite considerable.  There has already been talk of sanctions here, and that might trigger even more economic chaos (the S&P / Dow dropped 3% yesterday, in part due to this news).

It really appears all parties are playing with fire here.  Hope you're doing all right, Andy H.K.!

Saw very little on the news, mainly trash crap online. Let's not even talk about television, my country information is more about politics, corruption and politics and fascism, at the moment.

What is the cause, what is happening? I really don't know anything, beside the chaos that has been going on in the city.

I'm sure the United States will lead the charge in those sanctions. More blows in Trump's meaningless trade war, with impending recession? So much winning.
Yup, this is a classic no-win situation, lol.

If Trump does nothing, he'll be considered toothless and weak.  His own party might disown him.

If he acts to use international diplomacy and sanctions to punish Beijing, he'll plunge the world economy into its first major recession since 2007, just before his re-election campaign gets going, as well as making Beijing really mad.

Up until this last week, it looked like Trump was going to look the other way, which was cowardly and unfair to people like Andy, but was understandable realpolitik; Hong Kong's small, China is not.

Now things have gotten considerably more complicated, as Great Britain has reminded Beijing that Hong Kong isn't entirely theirs yet; that means that we'd probably have to stand with our biggest ally.

Either way, the U.S. is going to lose; the timing of all this could not be worse, in terms of U.S. politics and the world's economy.

It all started when the Hong Kong government tried to pass a bill which gives them the power to detain and extradite people in Hong Kong to territories that Hong Kong does not have extradition agreements with, including mainland China and Taiwan. People protested, fearing this to be opening a way for the China authority to grab people beyond their judicial system's reach. The Hong Kong government ignored protester's demand, instead relying on the local police force to suppress gatherings with increasingly brutal approaches.

For a simplified timeline, try this.

What country are you in?

Italy. Not the worst country in Europe, or the world, dealing with it, but the one who's acting the most stupidly about it, beside your personal point of view about politics, social affairs, immigration and all of the rest

Thank you, Andy, just took a closer look at the thing, nasty nasty cr*p, no joking about. From a certain point, the city is trapped between a rock and a hard place, if you take account of the international powers equilibrium, the fact that China has become one of the three superpowers in the world and sits rigth there, some miles from you. Anyone is feeling the pressure, but you're really, really ina a bad position.
That being said, just keep nuking their as*es the way you're doing. You have the right and the civil duty to protect your freedom: we are not talking the easy peasy social conflicts over here, we are talking about life and death, and most of all, honest to fug regime.

Can't do much, but I can spread the word about what I read and saw.
Fun fact: one of the few news to arrive over here was that stunt you've pulled out with the lasers, trying to friyng cams in some way. The new talked about "scy-fi urban warfare". I kid you not, THAT is the way the thing arrived here, with just a tad extra here and there.

BREAKING: Civilians on train are stormed and beaten in HK, again. this time by the police.

Location is the Prince Edward MTR station, I pass through this place everyday I commute.

This bring back memories of what occured on 21th July, at the Yuen Long MTR station, where triad mobs attacked civilians on train.
