Congratulations are in order!
« on: June 04, 2019, 02:38:40 PM »

Hello Starsector community,

Firstly, congratulations to Alex and any / all developers / artists who have worked on Starsector over the years.
I remember this game back when it was just a single system, with only a couple of factions floating around.

After returning quite a few years later, I see you've been very busy!

A galaxy which can be travelled, colonies, ship building, factions & reputations, story system (at least some), plenty of quests, bars, hire-able crew.. etc..etc..
Wow!

How addictive this game suddenly is!
It's absolutely evaporating all my free time at the moment, and I freaking love it!

You've really smashed it guys, from the audio to the atmosphere & combat system. The colony management is pretty cool too, even in this early stage.
I'm sure there still even more you can do and look forward to the updates.

Currently enjoying my first colony, aptly named "Pirate Hunters" - I absolutely hate pirates (in a fun way) so I'm dedicated to wiping them out.
They just keep on coming though, throwing themselves against my orbital battle station, its so much fun to watch!!

The only real thing I'd like to see is focus on attempting to flesh out the story mode.
I think there's some really exciting things going on in the Starsector galaxy, such as the inactive domain gates, floating domain AI etc..
There's lots of possibilities to really inject some surprises for the player as the story eventually develops, looking forward to that!

Congratulations again! Keep smashing it, I look forward to something big happening next in our beloved galaxy.

Thank you so much! I'm really happy you're enjoying it.

Yeah, for sure - I'm looking forward to getting more of these things into the game as well!

the story potentials are so vast...

a) a huge interlocking story arc like the X3: Terran Conflict "Hub missions" that...well won't spoil them
b) "unlocking" portions of the galaxy...oh look at that blue marble could that be...
c) alien invasions
d) human invasion of alien space
e) escort missions, space monsters, hyperspace "hurricanes" that prompt system evacuations (and rampant theft)

I like to see core worlds defend themselves by sending some of their expeditions at their mortal enemies (like pirates) instead of at the wildcard independent looking to make a home and a fortune.  It is silly that factions send a neverending stream of multi-capital deathballs to their death at a non-hostile instead of at the deathballs coming at them from bloodthirsty pirates.

Would like inactive gates to do something beyond just sit there like a red herring.

Would like to see a real endgame with a win condition.

Just putting it here as it didn’t get noticed the last time  :P

Faction specific storylines could be interesting. Helping the Hegemony open up the gates and unite the sector or joining a TT expedition in fringe space to search for forgotten technology. Maybe even collaborating with the Pathers in a holy crusade against the sector to start a new “golden age” without technology. Probably too far-fetched though.

Will Starsector even have a main storyline with a clear-cut ending or will the next few updates just expand upon the “your actions have consequences” feature? I’m really hoping it’s the former.

It got noticed, but the answer is classified, citizen :)

Interest piqued. Different question then. How much of the game is completed?

Somewhere between 0 and 100% :) (Sorry, that's not something that's really possible to answer; it's in a sense a different take on the "when will 1.0 be released" question, the answer to which is of course "when it's ready".)

Sorry for being vague. What I actually meant was how much of the core features were completed. But looking back at it, it’s probably also impossible to determine. Guess i’ll just patiently wait for the next update. I appreciate you taking the time to (kinda?) answer my questions  ;D

Well from 0.6 something , which i think was first version i played we got:

-More factions,
-More ships,
-from one system to entire sector
-trade upgrade
-own faction
-colonistation
-better fight
-ton of mod.
etc etc

game got i think serious stuff from start, i think it's around half completed, jugding by amount of changes. There is still much to be done, but it is more complex than many things i saw on start.

To elaborate a bit: as far as campaign-mechanics, it's mostly there; there are a couple more things I'd like to add, but not too many. As far content (which includes story-type missions and so on), I'd like to add a bunch more. And there are some things that are not in either category. Thank you for being patient :)
