I meant disabling Optimus. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the specifics.

This is a problem with the graphics card reducing the quality of the textures that the game uses, though - so it's bound to be a setting related to that. Turning up anything to do with "mipmaps" is also a good idea.

The list of settings I can change and the tabs I can choose from.
I have checked the other tabs but none affect games.

Onward to search for how to manually disable Optimus.

Power management mode looks suspicious. Might want to change it to something where it doesn't do any managing (Prefer Maximum Performance)

Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration - set that to single display performance mode.

Also, turn off "Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization" - that's the most promising-looking one.

Negative LOD bias - set it to "Allow".

Here's an informative link about these settings, btw:

ISSUE
NVidia needs to rework their program slightly to automatically default to whichever is chosen in the Optimus Control Panel.
The changes one would make in the Control Panel would not be applied at all.

STEPS TO FIX
Part 1
- Open Optimus
- Go to 3D Settings < Manage 3D Settings
- Click "Program Settings" tab
- Add Starfarer to the list
- Change settings to run "High Quality Textures"

Part 2
- At top, click the "Desktop" drop down menu
- Check the "Add the 'Run with Graphics Processor' to Context Menu"
- Right click the Starfarer.exe
- Find "Run with Graphics Processor"
- Click on "Choose Default Processor" *I had assumed default would work, that is incorrect*
- Choose NVidia

Thank you greatly for everyone's help.

Nice, glad you got it working!

Thank you for posting the steps, this'll really help when someone else has the same problem - as I'm certain someone will.

Aye, I am extremely happy to finally be able to play the game.

I needed to modify a step however. If you go to "Choose Default" it brings you to Optimus.
This means anyone using NVidia Optimus must right click and manually choose to use the NVidia GfxCard every time they want to play.

You're welcome, I'm glad I could help.
