Three habitable planets in one system
« on: January 06, 2019, 08:29:52 PM »

I thought I had found a good place for a first colony in a nice tundra planet with 100% hazard rating, adequate farmland, moderate ore deposits, common organics and 3 stable locations. Only 10 light years away from core. Only had to get rid of a pirate base.

Then I explore a red giant right next to it, at 7 light years  :o

Planet 1
  • Terran, 100%
  • Bountiful farmland (+2 food)
  • Sparse rare ore deposits (-1 transplutonic ore)
  • Moderate ore deposits
  • Plentiful organics (+2 organics)
  • Low gravity

Planet 2
  • Tundra, 100%
  • Poor farmland (-1 food)
  • Sparse ore deposits (-1  ore)
  • Scattered ruins
  • Common organics

Planet 3
  • Water, 125%
  • Poor farmland (-1 food)
  • Moderate ore deposits
  • Extensive ruins
  • Abundant organics (+1 organics)
  • Water-covered surface
  • Pollution

There are also three usual cryovolcanic/toxic/rocky planets, and only one stable location.

Not too shabby, huh  :D

None of them have Volatiles.  However, close to core like that is good.

Is it even possible to have habitable and volatiles? I thought those were only on gas planets and I've never seen a habitable one.

Yes, though it is uncommon or rare.  In my current game, I have 125% Terran with low volatiles and moderate to high everything else (was 150% with decivilized, but Birdy's trick removed decivilized for 125%), and 75% Terran with some resources in the same system, somewhat close to core and west.

Closer to core and just south of Penelope's, 100% arid and 125% desert planets.  None have all resources, but both together have them all.

Further southeast, I have 75% terran and 100% tundra with four out of five resources, missing rare ore.

Habitables can have trace or diffuse volatiles.  With Industrial Planning, you only need Trace Volatiles to have enough for Fuel Production.  Rare ore tops at moderate for habitables, unless it has high gravity, in which case it can go all the way up to ultrarich.  You need at least moderate ore with Industrial Planning to satisfy demand for Refining.

One of the planets in the system has +1 volatiles, +2 ore and +2 transplutonic ore, with 250% hazard rating. I think I could afford the extra cost if I wanted to avoid importing volatiles.

This is what I've done so far:

That first system with the pirate base already sent a raid that failed, now there's an evenly matched Sindrian expedition coming.

250% will be murder unless you plan to use cores to reduce upkeep.  Maybe look for another planet in another system?

From the looks of your pics, it appears your rare ore is "sparse" which will not be enough to satisfy demand (after your colonies outgrow core worlds) unless you use a core in Refining, but you might get by despite the shortage.

I remember finding one arid world with all four mining resources (organic, ore, transplutonic ore, and volatiles) in my current game. Too bad it is in a high level remnant system :'(. Still, Druzakh spawned two really good planets one terran with 75% hazard once you remove the decivilized condition, and a 100% hazard tundra. MN-6312697554598932602 is the seed if you want a look.

Redacted systems are kind of fun, ATM you can settle in redacted space without doing with redacted and they will never attack your colonies.

Heck, you don't even need a patrol station in a Red sector: The infinite AI swarms of doom have you covered!

Amazingly, trade still manages to find a way in and out of the system.

Seeds of games (two, three, and four) of mine.  Details in spoilers.

MN-244674303805349465
Spoiler
Delta Aegea (far into east fringe)
  • II:  125% Desert, decent place for third base in system for maximum patrols.
  • III-A:  100% Water, has trace volatiles.
  • III-B:  75% Terran, has 4/5 resources, no volatiles; rare ore is sparse.

Lilith (east and next door to Delta Aegea)
  • Mucalinda:  125% Desert, nothing useful aside from putting base here to reinforce patrols
  • Huma:  100% Tundra, all five resources; rare ore is sparse

Spoiler
Big Ping (immediately north of core)

  • I:  125% Desert, smaller ruins, useful as a third military base
  • II:  100% Water
  • III:  125% Tundra, all five resources

This seed has no 75% Terran planets.

  • Saraneth:  75% Terran, three resources

Tlalost Legila (immediately south of Penelope's Star)
