Ambushes when the player is pirate allied
« on: December 08, 2018, 02:06:58 AM »

Here's a save: https://mega.nz/#F!10NCTQhY!Q7wT06rm2Zzlzf6xqbYV2w
They're pretty broken.

They show as hostile, despite normally being friendly with the player.
Turning transponder off then on again will cause an instant 103 reputation loss.
They will keep approaching then fleeing the player (they flee when they enter the range for identifying a fleet without a transponder even if transponder is on), instead of maintaining contact.
Also, they follow me between systems, despite never actually showing "pursuing your fleet".

Well, it's not an ambush, they were doing a drug deal on a wreck and you busted in and stole their drugs. Though there should be drugs or organs on board but they are not in.

No, this is a distress call ambush.

Hi - hmm, seems fixed over here. Maybe we have different expectations of what "fixed" means - they will still attack you; they're pirates and it's an ambush. Just the weirdness around their behavior when trying to do so is fixed.

Okay, what about the reputation loss? They are engaging my fleet and I can't disengage because my fleet is too large. I am forced to fight them. Why does my reputation suffer from that? It doesn't make sense to me. It punishes the player for something he/she has no control over.

Ahh, right. I double-checked the behavior but not the reputation part; that was indeed still not working - to be honest, I don't remember what I did originally, so I'm not sure if I meant to do it and didn't or meant to do something else. In any case, it's actually really totally fixed now - the reputation hit will be minor, not "down to hostile"; thank you for bringing it up :)

What's the rationale for the minor reputation hit?

It's consistent with how it works for most other fleets where engaging them doesn't cause outright hostilities. I could see an argument either way, but if you'd like to discuss this further, btw, this really isn't the subforum for it...
