A cruiser launcher a hail of missiles well before the enemy came into range. A nearby frigate then put up it's shields in the direction of the launched missiles. Shortly after, it flew (backed into) the cruiser that launched the missiles.

The frigate was assigned as escort to the cruiser.

What kind of missiles was it? Not annihilators, by chance?

I can't remember the specific missile name, but I do know that they weren't annihilators. They were the frag/EMP engine missiles.

Hmm. In that case, it definitely wasn't trying to shield those off - something else must have been going on. I'll see if I can reproduce this, though - the hull types of the cruiser and the frigate would be helpful.

Sorry I was mistaken, it wasn't a cruiser but a destroyer. Lasher and a Buffalo MK II. The missiles were Salamanders like rada660 said.
