Easiest to test with 3-4 AM Blaster armed Afflictor against any unshielded or front-shielded ship.
It is very distance sensitive. Close to bumping range - no damage, few pixels too far - Afflictor dies in death aoe as normally expected.
Might also depend on enemy shape - seems easier to do on side of longer ships (closer to center?).

Thanks for the report! Hmm, can't seem to reproduce this - tried with a few different ships, bumping up to the point of it looking like they're touching. In particular, vs an Atlas, from the side. Afflictor seems to always blow up as expected. Is this a modded game, by chance? It's also not impossible that I touched something related and fixed it sometime back.

Just tried, it's reproducible against Atlas for me. Though it isn't the easiest test subject due to time limit on positioning (before shield catches up). Doing it vs Lashers seems reliable enough (and fast, because 3 AM blasters one-shot them).
No, no single mod (been running vanilla skill-less sim scenarios to test performance ceiling of various ships(i.e. what can solo a Paragon, what's the largest ship X can kill, etc)).
Ok, then it's probably fixed. I'll keep my eyes open for it in next version just in case (since it's kind of juicy exploit for Afflictor).

Thank you for giving it a shot! Just tried it vs the Lasher; this look about like what you're seeing as far as ranges?

I try to get even closer, but this looks close enough.
It seems I can even overlap Afflictor over Lasher on de-phase - that's what I go for (in engine area).
In fact, trying to see how much I can overlap, I just ended up overdoing it and hitting Lasher's (frontal!) shield from behind.

Hmm... maybe it's not about range itself?
Afflictor gets to fire a bit before it becomes vulnerable when de-phasing (all my tests were on de-phase, since I can't dock that close without time dilation). Firing AM blasters *that close* negates their travel time while wind-up alone just barely fits into invulnerability window, thus allowing me to hit(and destroy enemy) while I'm still invulnerable. That's my current theory anyway :)

Interesting - just tried it while unphasing slightly inside the Lasher, with right/left click being almost simultaneous. Afflictor still explodes over here. So: enjoy it while it lasts, I think? :)

I found that it's best to keep left click(fire) held in advance when un-phasing. This way I am guaranteed to not have input delay (thanks for this feature). 'Almost simultaneous' might be not quite same thing. Or this may be not doable anymore :) .

Oh, hah - it *does* survive then! Must be a super narrow frame window. I think I'll just leave it in; seems like fun.

Yep, now that we figured out what happens it almost looks like an intended feature :)
