« on: February 29, 2012, 04:10:17 AM »

Whats your favourite?

Personally ive been ripped apart in a hound by both so cant really say if either is better. just got enough cash to buy another basic frigate or swap my interceptors for broadswords/piranahs

Broad Sword. Piranha's only useful again capital ships and only if you have 2 wings or more.

Using elite pilots is a must for fighters though.

Broadswords have a wider range of uses, but there's a special kind of satisfaction to be had when a well-coordinated mass Piranha strike works and knocks out a big target.

True, but until Alex modify the fleet speed formula, a few wings of bombers REALLY slow down your map movement.

Broadswords TEAR shields down, even on big capital ships.

I kinda like the Piranha more, especially because i love the way their AI works,
when not on a bombing run they are extremly defensive while just annoying the enemies frigates and fighters
this also ensures high survivalrates
this is why i like them more

I like them both crazy a lot. Broadswords have been known to take down unwary frigates, but if you can get a successful bomb run in with pirahanas you can shred most destroyers.

Personal preference really.

I'd rather have one Broadsword wing than one Piranha wing, but there's nothing quite like sending four or five wings of Piranhas after a capital ship all at once. Unless the enemy has a ton of flak, there's no way to stop that many bombs.

Broadswords tend to do better in smaller numbers than Piranhas.. but enmasse.. Piranhas will kill ANYTHING and everything..

2-3 bomber wings and it's just too many bombs..

Piranha are truly excellent as long as you give them a little escort. Even if you don't, two to three massed wings have enough swarmer firepower to ward off most ships.

The Broadsword is (at least imo) a complete waste of space. If you are going to spend 6 points on a ship to take down shields, go with a wolf or Tempest if you have the cash. They are far more capable and the Tempest is faster to boot. If you want them as interceptors, buy some wasps. Oh, and if you field either don't go up against the tri-tachs unless you have plenty of other PD ships - wasps will eat either for breakfast.

Piranhas are far better. The mass bomb release can destroy or overload almost anything, and they're only 7800 credits. Fairly durable as well, not like the fragile Broadsword fighters...

They have identical health and armor ;)

Broadswords excel against anything frigate size and smaller, Piranhas against anything larger. They have different roles, If a Piranha were to vs Broadswords the Broadswords would win every time.
