Mod- Monsters of the Week
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:12:44 AM »

I would like to ask that we not post pictures of what these monsters look like for at least the first or second day to give everyone a chance to run headlong into these things and not ruin their experience. This isn't to imply that I did a particularly good job on these ships of course :P. It's just for effect, you'll know what I mean when you see it.

About the mod

This is a simple mod really, I will make ships that are ridiculously big, ugly, and overpowered to the point that no amount of balancing in campaign would fix them, I then give you a ship and let you try and take it down. Simple.

Latest Version http://www.gamefront.com/files/21404390/Monster_of_the_Week+2.rar
Can't find it, linky no working either :(

I would like to thank Washout and Hrath for their support and ideas of troubleshooting the mod in the early stages. The tutorials made by numerous members in this forum was also quite helpful, in particular the major mod makers themselves. And lastly, Alex and co. for putting up with people like me who hack up their masterpiece to make mods with.

Edit: I forgot about to mention that the bat ship came from medikohl's ship thread: http://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=1131.0 Wonderful stuff.

The battle station is not completely operational, shall we say.

"Now witness the firepower of this thoroughly buggy and unoperational batt... Oh, hell, you know what? Just ignore the battle station, okay?"

It is a pretty cool idea to make it a skill challenge, but is it supposed to retreat at some point to make it harder? I felt pretty annoyed when it ran and I had it at 30%. I definitely like your approach of making a radically different experience from the standard game, so thumbs up from me!

I've yet to see the thing run away from me, so I guess I need more testing in that area. As far as my ability goes however, I don't know anything I can do about it at this moment. I am happy to say that the next version will make it less likely that ships retreat.

i like how you were disabled.. then it was disabled.. and then you were subsequently destroyed.. by what can only be the gods of the game since the opponent was already disabled.  LOL

You won't be able to refit fighters and bombers at all. They're designed/balanced around having a particular set of weapons and would be very broken if you could change it. Which ones you pick for your fleet -out of quite a few that are available- is the choice here, not how they're outfitted.

Were there asteroids? I've heard of folks using their shield to nudge another ship to death with rocks.

I'm thinking more along the lines of clusters of thing. You know, fear of clusters of things.

Edit: New sprite done, it's not as detailed as the first one, it's mainly to test out some designs for the guns and the projectiles now I know how to deal with it well.

Edit 2: More good news is that I found a great bunch of pictures for new ships ;D.

Bump, new week, new monster. This one offers a bit more of a challenge, even if it's only in the load out screen.

There really isn't anything all that innovative, it's just me experimenting with some wpn, prok, and cruise missiles which didn't get into the cut even though they kept slamming into the target anyway.
