Mod Section Date format poll
« on: July 13, 2017, 08:19:05 PM »

Let's find a date format that most people would agree on. Hope the moders would follow the "standard format" in the future.
The options refer to https://www.w3schools.com/sql/func_convert.asp.
If you have a better idea please write in the reply.

Should we have a poll and see what is the most accepted format that most people would agree on?

Gods no, democracy sucks; it leads to the lowest common denominator!

Enlightened dictatorship is far more efficient; know what's best for the greater good, and force it upon us!!
In this case, it's International standard date format; ISO 8601. (The clue is in the name ;)

The main advantage of year first and day last is file sorting on the computer (e.g., yyyymmdd).  If not for that, I would use month first and year last (e.g., mm/dd/yyyy).

Yes, dates being expressed most significant digit 1st (like the rest of our number system) is a logical no brainer.
There's the practical benefit of no ambiguity too; in my mind that's even more valuable.

Would any agreed-on format be enforced by moderation team (e.g. editing non-compliant dates in thread titles)?

I could not care less about significant digits this or that.  ISO is only good for convenience on the computer.  I do not listen to people reading or saying <year>, <month>, <day> in conversation.  Makes them sound like a robot.  Used to people speaking something like July 14th, 2017.

ISO or bust.
There is no purpose arguing about it. We have a global standard, let's just follow it.

I voted in the poll. ISO 8601, all the way.

If the moderators enforce its use in the Mods Forum, so much the better.
Less unintended confusion in modding threads = win.

Don't tell me I'm playing anything wrong in a singleplayer sandbox game. Just don't.

Global standard alone is not a good reason, given man's inclinations.  There should be a good reason to use a standard beyond peer pressure.

This is not something that seems relevant enough to warrant enforcement. I'm happy about the community finding a standard, though. What that is, I don't really mind.

For me its most logical to go from big to small with y-m-d, but most convenient to go from small to big with d-m-y. The day is what changes most often, after all.

At this moment we have yyyy-mm-dd (14 votes) and dd/mm/yyyy(7 votes) as the most voted options. Should I shrink the poll options? Only keep this 2?

P.S. :Ah, never mind just realized that you could only add options.

I think one day we will have a mod manager to help everyone to sort things out and get to play a mod in a much easier way.
I believe someone has been working on it. :D
