Color Sensor/Detection Range when they are modified
« on: May 19, 2017, 06:16:32 AM »

There are all kinds of terrain and abilitites that modify how far you can see or be seen. You can see their effects when you mouse over either the terrain/ability description or your Sensor/Detection Range, but doing that usually requires you to pause the game. I also can't really memorize all the effects (which seem to change with every update) or intuit them good enough.

I think it would be a simple but effective QOL improvement to color the Sensor/Detection Range values red/green when they are enhanced/decreased relative to normal. Maybe just if that happens by a multiplication, the flat +1000 addition of the Transponder should not lead to a permanent red Detection Range value.

A good suggestion, even more so since there will possibly more different types of terrain as the game update. And that's not counting mods with their own custom ones.

I'll go even further and ask for a similar glow effect for fuel/supplies/speed :

But maybe not as garish as this.

This is a really good idea and it'd cut down the time i spend reading tooltips.

As long as the red is always the bad color. i.e for sensor range, green is higher, red is lower. But for detection range, green is lower, red is higher.

Sneaking around and using those terrains is one of my favorite things in this game.

edit: make some provision for red/green colorblind people

For those stats it's less obvious what is normal and what requires attention. I think the supply consumption should only draw attention when, at the current rate, it will leave you with few or no supplies within a short time. So, either if you have normal consumption bur very few supplies left, or if you have plenty supplies, but a very high consumption with no end in sight (i.e., if it will not drop long before you run out of supplies).
