[0.8a RC19] Java error crash when saving
« on: May 12, 2017, 01:25:10 PM »

Typically after playing for a little while, saving takes progressively longer. Eventually while saving, the game will stutter a bit, then crash, corrupting the save. Have tried running the game in administrator mode. Have given the game over 7gb of ram in vmparams. Have also tried using a symbolic link to save on another hard drive. Have resorted to using "save copy" most of the time in an effort to minimize the time lost in event of save corruption.

Is this vanilla or with mods?

This is with mods, though with only those marked as compatible with 0.8.

What you're describing is symptomatic of a memory leak. I can't say for sure whether it's caused by mods or something in vanilla; are you seeing the problem happen in vanilla also? It may be worth it to disable mods one at a time to see if there's a (relatively) obvious culprit. Depending on how long the problem takes to surface, this may or may not be practical. In either case, a list of the mods you're using would be a useful data point.

Btw: there's a backup of the save in the save's directory (a pair of .bak files), you can get back to the previous save using those.

Is there an easy way to output a mod list, or will I have to manually produce one? And thanks for the heads up about the .baks. I've used them pretty extensively, but still use save copy to save from having to copy and rename files over and over.

If you run the game, it should output the list of mods it's running with into the logfile - something like:

43331 [Thread-4] INFO  com.fs.starfarer.StarfarerLauncher  - Running with the following mods (in order of priority):
43331 [Thread-4] INFO  com.fs.starfarer.StarfarerLauncher  -     $$Rebalanced Pilums [id: $$rebalanced_pilums] [version 1.1] (from C:\workspace\starfarer\mods\Rebalanced Pilums)
43332 [Thread-4] INFO  com.fs.starfarer.StarfarerLauncher  -     $tarsector+ [id: dr_ssp] [version 3.7.0] (from C:\workspace\starfarer\mods\Starsector Plus)
43332 [Thread-4] INFO  com.fs.starfarer.StarfarerLauncher  -     Galatia Complete [id: GalatiaC] [version 1.4] (from C:\workspace\starfarer\mods\Galatia Complete)
43354 [Thread-4] INFO  com.fs.starfarer.StarfarerLauncher  - Mod list finished

Might be easier to delete the log first, so that this list is near the top.

Also: what's the actual error message you get while saving?

And thanks for the heads up about the .baks. I've used them pretty extensively, but still use save copy to save from having to copy and rename files over and over.

Ah, gotcha, that makes sense.

I did not detect any memory leaks originating from my mods, including Interstellar Imperium.

@Serentis: this looks like a different error, not memory but rather graphics-related.

I'll move this to it's own topic then.
Apologies for taking up threadspace.

Fatal: No OpenGL context found in the current thread.

You won't be able to refit fighters and bombers at all. They're designed/balanced around having a particular set of weapons and would be very broken if you could change it. Which ones you pick for your fleet -out of quite a few that are available- is the choice here, not how they're outfitted.
