Craziest Starfarer Experiances
« on: February 25, 2012, 08:17:44 PM »

This is the story of the Omen-class frigate that could(ish): So I was bored and decided to attack the gigantic Hedgemoney defense fleet with just a little Omen-Class frigate. Turns out Omens are pretty damn fast and soon I was just flying around with half a hundred missiles on my tail, taking potshots at their cruisers and frigates. Eventually, I got bored and decided to figure out how big an explosion I could make if I rammed the wall of rockets head on. Needless to say, I exploded pretty much instantly, however, there were so many rockets that I was disabled and destroyed 3 times. I think that Omen was annihilated down to the last molecule. :I

Anyway, that's my story. Feel free to share your own crazy or strange Starfarer experiences.

i was fighting a rather large hegimony fleet, and i did not think i had much of a chance, i had a rather large battlecrusier, but it was slow, and the fight is usually decided by the time it arrives anyways.

but not in this case... when all seemed lost, the enemy ship, with its front shields, turned hard to face my ship, at right the exact wrong moment, leaving its rear engines completely exposed to the massive battlecrusier. it died in 15 seconds.

I once tried to ram a capital ship with my TriTach Carrier.  It's all I had left.  Strangely, it worked... ish.  We both died.

The other ship died because the AI was dumb :D

My craziest Starfarer experience was when I engaged a huge TT fleet. It was a long and drawn out battle, full of heroic sacrifices and glorious moments...until the only ship left in my fleet was a Hammerhead, and the enemy was down to a heavily damaged Odyssey.

My fatal mistake? I left the AI to pilot the Hammerhead (since I wanted to give glory to my subordinate officers, but meh).

In fairness, the Hammerhead DID manage to blow up the Odyssey. But for some reason, the Hammerhead decided to be more manly and rammed its nose against the exploding enemy ship, shields down. Needless to say, they both ended up exploding, and I rage-quit with the force of a thousand suns.

this one time in band camp.....

my most crazy experience.. dont know if i can really say. though i can tell of one of my more memorable moments.

my 200 point fleet vs a larger hegemony fleet. i took over all but one point on the field of battle was able to get all my ships out. (which should have been my first clue) then a few moments later noticed the entire enemy fleet bearing down on my odyssey. looked into the map for some support to see just 2 broadswords left promptly told them to retreat and then committed sepuku for my failings as a leader. though i did manage to take a good bit of them with me.

You won't be able to refit fighters and bombers at all. They're designed/balanced around having a particular set of weapons and would be very broken if you could change it. Which ones you pick for your fleet -out of quite a few that are available- is the choice here, not how they're outfitted.

I was flying around for a while, capturing anything and everything in sight with my flagship (I've discovered the Paragon can outperform every fleet in existence, when used right) then this happened.

There was a lot more he got below that.

I had my wolf class frigate, i was fighting a bomber wing a lasher class frigate. i had killed the bombers and was shooting a set of harpoons when i overloaded, causing him to unload with his assault guns and salamander missles, in the end i wound up dead from the missle hits, when the dust cleard my ship was scraped but still in my fleat.  i then come to find out that the harpoons had uncrewed the lasher at the same time i died, so i now have a lasher and a wolf in my fleet

Was out of ammo and shield bashed 3 frigates, 1 hound and two lashers. Then i shield bashed two fire support carriers and finally decided to shield bash a modded in dragoon-class ship from, well one of those mods i don't remember which. I also used a modded ship it was a frigate called scarab-class or something. I won the fight with exhausted ammunition and killing all those ships with just the shield of my ship:) Also note that the ship i used does have a rather good flux capacity, there are essentially no frigates that can kill it if the operator is a skilled shield user and there are few destroyers that can. The cruiser could've been able to kill it but since i was such a good shield manager it worked out for me in the end:)

For me it was a tie.

When I first got the hang of this game, my fleet was just my starter Wolf Class Assault Frigate (which I adore) and another Wolf Class Point Defense Frigate. So while hunting pirates for some cash, I stopped paying attention and flew straight into a Pirate fleet of a bunch of shield-less destroyers, a couple of light carriers, 4 wings of assorted fighters, and a battlecruiser. So I picked a single point and captured it, set my wing-man to escort my flagship, and waited. I figured my escort would give the fighters trouble so I could pick them off before they ran away, all the way weaving away from the bigger ships. With the fighters out of the way, I got my escort to take care of rockets while I exploited used the Wolf's long laser beams to pick of the shields of the carriers before sending in harpoons. The shield-less destroyers I just took out their small arms with the Graviton beam and harpoons made short work of them.

Seeing how awesome my fleet was, the Battle-Cruiser starting running like a smart little Pirate commander he was. Boarding the ship after it Surrendered would have got me a good credit turn-in. But this was not that Pirate's lucky day, after this battle I was in a killing frenzy. I shot at this ship's engines until they burnt out, I managed to kill some of the carriers with energy weapons so I had about 4 harpoons left. So I unloaded on this poor man and 4 seconds later the screen flashes with a huge explosion.

My other close tie would be with the Gun Runners mod, using a Assault variant of the Gun Runner Medusa clone.

I had lost my trusty old Wolf frigates when I first tried my new Gun runner ship, letting the AI forget about using shields :(

So I bought a Gun Runner Cruiser and a couple of fighters, forgetting all about getting more crew. So I picked the largest Independent fleet I though I could take on with my new cruiser. The fleet was running but I caught up, I also forgot to save before fighting but I figured I had a guaranteed win...

So the combat screen comes up, and I only see one ship! There was at least 5 wings of fighters on me in about a minute, this ship had a needler which works wonders on enemy shield flux but can take out bombers in one burst.
For some reason the Needler does not run out of ammo on my ship, however once I took out all of the frigates and fighters, the only weapon I had with ammo was the Needler. There was 2 light carriers and one cruiser left, my weapon could over load a carrier in 2 bursts, 5 bursts for the cruiser, but did minimal damage to armor. After 3 minutes of fighting, none of the ships had taken any damage so the decided to run away. The cruiser surrendered, and the carriers escaped.

I took out an armada, solo. Twice. So I guess really it was one experience :)

Captain Nemo much? Lol Sounds like thousand leagues under the sea... does your ship happen to resemble anything like this? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/NautilusByWikiFred.jpg

Enemy Merc fleet: Conquest class, 3 falcons, 2 hammerheads, 2 fire support frigates, 3 fighter wings (forget which)
My Fleet: Venture, 2x broadsword, 2x Piranha, 2x lasher, enforcer
FLAWLESS VICTORY!!!!!!!!
Honestly not even that epic of a fight, but on paper they should've had me.

Just yersterday
My fleet of 1 Lasher frigate 1 Piranha bomber wing versus 1 Medusa destroyer 70 % health and Aurora cruiser 50 % health
Fight result after a few training runs, Medusa captured aurora destroyed 1/3 of the bombers lost and 85 % health left on Lasher.
It made one hell of a technical fight to bypass the shields with the bombers while I took hits and distracted the ships. Fights were not at the same time, the aurora arrived while halfway during Medusa disabling.
