Joining other fleets and escort duty
« on: March 29, 2017, 03:36:41 AM »

A very cool mechanic to have in the beginning would be to serve as a mercenary under another commander.

As in, you join up with a fleet and serve as another ship inside that fleet.

You'd be exempt from fuel and supplies cost during this contract period and only get direct control of your ship(s) during battles. other ships in the fleet are still treated as allies.

I also think a mission that should be added is convoy escort duty, basically you make sure a trade fleet reaches its destination or protect them for X days.

Personally I think you could get away with this without "melding" the fleets, as you say. I feel like it would put too much limitation on the player, not being in control of where they're going and such. You could probably just have it so that the player's fleet is required to fly around their escort at a short range, and intercept targets should they appear.
