I updated my game. Loaded up my save. Went to buy more ships from Tri-Tachyon military, but it said i need 'commission' ? How do i get it ?

Go to a military market (Omga for Tri-Tachyon) and check the comm and missions board.

If you have ever played Exerelin, this hotfix brings some of that joy to vanilla: diplomacy events! Although seemingly limited to declaring open hostilities, it can easily catch you with your pants down, as in the case of you being comissioned for faction x, you immediaetly become hostile to faction y, just like x is. However, x will eventually become hostile to z, but you won't. Lest you want to let go of your hard-earned reputation, you will be underway looking for a fleet belonging to z and unleashing maniacal bloodthirst the fine art of privateering. Cheers!

And here I was, very proud of myself that I finally had +25 rep with the Pirates. Only to find out that Pirates have no idea what a commission is.

I can't find it, I'm a Nortia and they wont sell me Military goods, I already have a commission with the tri tach, can I only have one?

Commissions don't pay very well, haha. I think I got like 12k for nuking 2 pirate fleets that joined together with several cruisers and a bunch of frigates and destroyers.

Buuuuut, the system allows you to stay on decent terms with factions that aren't enemies of your commissioner which is a big deal!

Quick question:  If you lose a commission, can you regain it later or get another (assuming prerequisite relations), or are you a ronin forever?

You can regain it, yes.

If pirates should ever hand out something like a commission, it should be called differently. Something like "sworn in on the pirate codex"
